Amara
I always knew I was different. To start, I was the only child to the Alpha and Luna of my pack. After trying for another child, the Luna was diagnosed as infertile. It was odd to find that out about the Luna because wolves can't become infertile. That's when my parents told me.
"You're mother isn't truly a wolf. She was a human before she was bitten by your father." I was ten when they told me. As a child I always hated the idea of having a sibling but now, at the age of twenty, all I wanted was someone I could talk to. Someone I could cry on who wouldn't judge me.
Life is life. No one gets to choose what they get and what they want. I couldn't choose whether my father lived or died. It wasn't my choice, it was the moon goddess'. There are reasons as to why things happen the way that they do. My only regret was not telling my father the truth.
I would be the last of my family. Not because I'm infertile, from being twenty five percent human. I am the last because I liked women and not men. I didn't realize I felt that way until my eighteenth birthday.
My mind raced with millions of thoughts but they flickered away when a pair of arms wrapped around my waist. I leaned back into a warmth behind me and heavily exhaled.
"What're you thinking about, love?" A girl said, burying her face into the crook of my neck. A small smile grew on my lips at the slight affection from her.
"I was just thinking about my mother." I replied in a husky tone. She hummed, placing a kiss on my shoulder. Rolling in her arms, I faced Carmin. My brown gaze floated across her face, examining each feature on it.
She smiled, showing off her dimples. "You know no matter what happens, I'll love you." Slowly, her smiled faded. "Even if you find your mate."
A heavy weight set in my chest as thoughts about my mate appear in my head. The one I wanted to save myself for. My hand brushed a lock of hair behind her ear as the thoughts whisked away. "It's been two years, Carmin. I haven't found her yet and you haven't found yours either."
She turned her eyes to mine with a sigh. "I know but I don't want to assume that we don't have one. Especially if you or I find them. What if we end up getting married and then you find her?" She ranted on but soon her words stopped when I pressed my lips against hers.
I kissed her, pouring my love for her into the kiss. After a few moments, I pulled back. "I'll always love you, Carmin. I won't forget about you or our love if I find my mate." My hands caressed her face as I spoke. "I love you, okay?"
Carmin frowned and nodded, "Okay, okay. I love you too." She nuzzled against me as I held her close. We stayed in each other's arms for what seemed like hours but it was only a few minutes.
A soft sigh passed my lips as I recoiled my arms from her. I leaned over and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "We should get going. Before someone finds us." Pulling away, I slipped from the blanket and stood up.
Carmin huffed and climbed out of the bed, only to hug me from behind. "I wish we didn't have to hide from everyone." She murmured, her hot breath fanning my neck. "I wish I could kiss you without being alert for any pack members."
Nothing came from my mouth. Turning in her arms, I pressed my forehead against hers. "I know but the pack doesn't know that I'm gay. Besides, I haven't found my mate yet and you know how our pack is."
Her eyes closed and she sighed deeply. "I know, I know." I leaned forward and pressed my lips to the tip of her nose.
"Alright. Now we have to go. I'll check us out." Carmin nodded as I pulled away from her. My hands turned to the dresser beside the bed. It was small but that didn't matter. Pulling it open, I reached for leggings and a sweater.
I slipped out of my shorts and tank top, only to pulled the leggings and sweater on. As Carmin packed and grabbed her clean clothes, I turned on my heels and exited the room we had booked for the weekend.
Being the Alpha of a pack was always stressful, which is why Carmin suggested we rent a room at a bed & breakfast. The only problem was we couldn't wake up and shift like we could at the pack house. We had rented a room in the human part of our town.
There were two sides of the town we lived in. A human side and a werewolf side. The pack always wanted to feel secure and secluded from the humans so my family built another part of the town for us. The human side was more open and welcoming while the wolves were more territorial.
The pack would tend to frighten humans away so that none would come and see what we were. Surprisingly our tricks worked and neither side crossed the other. That is, until I became alpha.
After I gave the pack free reign to explore the human side of our town, I made it a habit of walking through every week. Every time I did so, Carmin would tag along since it was the only way we could be together.
Shaking my head, I let the thoughts of the pack and my love life fade away. My feet guided me to the front desk of the B&B we stayed at. An old woman smiled softly at me as I checked out of the room.
By the time, I finished checking out, Carmin came down from the room we had stayed in with two suitcases. "Ready to go?" She called to me from the door. The smell of pine drifted through the air, indicating she had taken a shower.
As much as I disliked my scent being stripped from her skin, I know it was necessary. The pack would be suspicious if my scent covered her body. Luckily for me, I had the pleasure of being around a human to cover Carmin's scent. Hers wasn't as strong as mine so the human scent easily covered hers.
"Yup, lets go." Snatching the suitcases from her, I headed out the door while Carmin followed.
Hundreds of fragrances hit my nostrils within seconds of being outside. After a few seconds, they died down except for one. A strong perfume of mint hung in my nose making it impossible to forget.
Breathing in, I pinpointed the location of the scent to a girl. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion while my feet guided me towards her. I must've been loud or she was a wolf like me because her head whipped behind her as though she was a deer caught in headlights.
My eyes seemed to recognize her but I couldn't figure out where we would've met. Her features are nothing like any of my pack members. She had grey blue eyes that brightened their color when the sun beat down her face.
Her brown hair was short, cut just above her shoulders but it was wild as though she hadn't brushed it in days. Power seemed to radiate off of the girl ahead of me. She seemed to young to have a strong aura around her, most likely eighteen at best.
I couldn't pull my gaze from hers. It was as if she had a chain that reeled me in. The faint voice of my lover seemed to drown as I stared onward to the girl. "Amara?"
Hands enveloped my arms before I was shaken violently out of my frozen state. "Amara!" Carmin shook me, beaming for my attention. Her eyes help worry and concern but I could see Carmin. My eyes burned with the memory of that a girl.
Looking over her shoulder, I surveyed the sidewalk where I had seen the girl. There was nothing but ice salt lay where the girl had once stood. "Who was that?"
