"Harry!" She jumped to him, hugging him tightly as he spun her around.
"I've missed you Mione, please don't leave it so long before you visit us again!" He put her down but still kept his hand on her shoulder as if she would disappear if he let go.
"I promise I won't, I missed my little brother too much!" She gave him a quick peck on the cheek and ruffled his hair knowing it would be impossible to make it any messier. "And James has gotten so big as well, I cannot wait to see my godson later. Oh and little Albus Rubeus, he looks so cute."
Harry was about to tell her how excited James was to see her as well when someone cleared their throat next to them and both friends realised they had completely ignored Ron's presence. "I know I'm not nearly as cute as little Harry junior and littler Harry junior 2.0 but I broke into Gringotts, fought a war and did so many more things with you, you can at least acknowledge me Hermione." An outsider would think he was angry, and given Ron's short temper it would be an understandable judgment, but the youngest Weasley son had grown a lot over the years and both of his best friends knew he was only joking.
"I'm sorry Ron, I didn't mean to ignore you. I missed you a lot too." She hugged him around the waist being too short, even with her high heels to put her arms around his neck like she had done to Harry.
"I missed you too Mione." Ron gave her a quick kiss on the forehead and then turned to look at the Hogwarts castle. "Who would've thought that the first time I'd come back to this castle I'd be with the two people that were there with me on the very first time?".
"We're still missing Neville mate, he was also on the boat" Harry knew what his brother-in-law had meant with that but he couldn't help but mess with him a bit. "And Hagrid too."
Clever as always Hermione decided to intervene before Ron started throwing a fit, yes he now had an emotional range bigger than a teaspoon, but at the end of the day he was still Ronald Weasley. "Why don't we make our way to the castle? It's a bit chilly out here and I don't know about you, but with these shoes I could take a seat for a bit before the party starts."
Once in the castle they walked through the door of the Great Hall hand in hand taking a second to take in the magnificence of this place that was once their home, breathing in the familiar smell of the castle and looking around for all the little details that they knew all too well. They immediately made their way to where Professor McGonagall who was sat talking to Kingsley.
"Look at this, if it isn't the famous Golden Trio." Kingsley got up and greeted each of the three people who he had fought side by side with on the Battle of the Seven Potters and during the time of the second Order.
"It's delightful to have you here my dears." Minerva McGonagall looked at the kids in front of her in awe, in her eyes they were still kids and would remain like that forevermore, maybe that's why she could barely believe these were the same three people that were always surrounded by trouble back in the day.
They caught up for a bit before the clocks signalled the rest of the guests would be arriving shortly and the two hosts had to excuse themselves. "Mr Potter, Mr Weasley, Miss Granger, lovely to see you for a bit, I hope I can catch up with you three later."
"Thank you Professor, we will make sure to talk to you later. Also, please call me Hermione, there's no need for such formalities, I haven't been called Miss Granger in years." The young woman turned around walking to the drinks table closely followed by the two men.
"Now Hermione, I know I tend to be a bit oblivious most of the time." Harry said draping his arm around her shoulder in such a dramatic way that Hermione was sure his godfather would have tears of pride in his eyes up in Heaven. "But are those two rings on your finger the reason you haven't been called Miss Granger in years?"
Hermione almost choked on the drink she had just picked up. She hadn't thought of taking off her rings as she knew she'd have to eventually mention the topic of marriage during this Gala, however she didn't expect Harry-"I don't see anything unless it's right on my face"-Potter to be the one to notice it. Thankfully, she recovered from the shock quite quickly and putting her glass of orange juice on the table she used her best smirk. "Maybe they are Harry, who knows?"
"You mean to tell us that you got engaged AND married and didn't mention it at all to either of us?" Ron looked more surprised than Seamus had looked when Professor McGonagall had told him to blow up the bridge during the Final Battle. "This Australian guy of yours must really be something else."
She had told both guys over letters about this guy she had started seeing after moving to Australia while looking for her parents. However, she had never mentioned how serious the relationship had gotten and feared her friends reaction as they didn't even know who the guy in question was since he never accompanied her on her trips to England.
"Seriously now Mione, you've been with this guy for what now, 9 years? And you're married! Will we ever get to meet him?" Harry wasn't angry, you could see in his eyes he was only curious, curious about this guy who had brought a new light to Hermione making her smile like never before.
"You will Harry. In fact, in a few hours all will be out in the open, he's here tonight."
