It was the 10th year reunion after the War that had finally put end to Voldemort for good. After many decades of living in fear and multiple generations growing up doubting if the next day would ever come, Harry Potter had defeated what remained of the man that had once been known as Tom Riddle, leaving everyone in the Wizarding World to move on with their lives in a brighter place.

To celebrate this historical date Headmistress McGonagall had joined her former student and now Minister for Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt, to organise a massive Gala at Hogwarts, a couple of months after the actual day of the battle though since "I know you're Minister now, but you can't cancel school, exams or Quidditch, Kingsley!".

Everyone who had been a student at Hogwarts at the time of the war as well as all of those outside the school who had helped along the way or came in to fight for the light were invited, and now, after months of careful planning and preparation, it was the day everyone had been waiting for.

Some of the guests, those with the honour status like the Golden Trio and the members of the first Order of the Phoenix who were still standing, were invited to come earlier to the castle so they could mingle before the space was packed. That was the reason why Hermione, the Brightest witch of her age, was now standing just outside the gates of Hogwarts waiting for the two other members of the Golden Trio.

Her relationship with Ron hadn't lasted long after The Battle, the war had done a lot of damage to too many people and they soon realised they worked better as the best friends that they had been for 7 years rather than the boyfriend and girlfriend they had tried to be for 8 weeks. She didn't like to think about those first months after Voldemort had been defeated, with everyone having their own scars and open wounds each day seemed to last an eternity but also only a second at the same time.

The first thing they had been assigned to do was to rebuild Hogwarts and when the opportunity appeared for her to return and re-do her 7th year she didn't have to think twice. She had spend the entire Summer with the Weasleys, even after the break up with Ron she had stayed, having Molly claim she wouldn't let Hermione go back to her empty house when the Burrow was her home. At the time Hermione had fussed a bit about this but she swallowed all her complaints when the matriarch said, in between tears "I'm not letting another one of my kids go".

The grief felt in that house was something indescribable, everyone coped with it differently and slowly the endless amount of sadness and pain was no longer felt in the air. However, the sensation of utter loss was still there and when September came Hermione was glad to leave that energy behind, and so was the youngest Weasley, Ginny.

They had both relied on each other immensely during this time. Ginny claiming that Hermione would always be her sister even if she was no longer with Ron, even jokingly saying that she could still marry any of her other 3 brothers, maybe even Bill if they found a way to get rid of Fleur.

Coming back for that year at Hogwarts was like a dream, house rivalry died down (apart from Quidditch, everyone still went Dean-like crazy about Quidditch) and they even shared a common room with all the other "8th years". Ginny was technically a normal 7th year and should've stayed in Gryffindor Tower but somehow she had convinced McGonagall to let her stay with them and after a while so did Luna.

Hermione graduated Hogwarts and decided to move to Australia to find her parents, opting to stay there after restoring their memories, just before the 3rd anniversary of the war. She still came to England every few months to visit her friends and keep them updated about her life, but after 4 years years of living down under she stoped visiting as often, keeping in contact only by owl or during the special occasions when she would indeed come back to England. In fact, the last time she had seen either of the boys had been almost 4 years ago when little James Sirius Potter, her beautiful godson, was baptised and she came back for a week to spent some more time with her favourite little boy and like Ginny had put it "officially become connected to the Weasley family".

She was so lost in memory lane that she didn't see the two boys, now grown men approach her, only coming back to reality when she heard the oh so familiar voice of the one who had always been her brother.

"I cannot believe this Ron, a rare sight of one Hermione Granger in UK soil, that hasn't been known to happen in years!".
