abby's POV
i wake up in a hospital room, michael on my right side. he was holding my hand and also reading a book.
"what book are you reading," i ask nearly whispering.
"oh my god," he begins in his australian accent. "how are you-."
before he can finish his sentence, i state "what the hell kinda book title is 'how are you'?"
"oh- yeah that. uhh,"
"come on, do you seriously not know the title?"
"n- no. it's um harry potter."
"which one? i'd never thought you'd be the type of person to read."
he laughs at the last part, "it's the fifth one, actually. you've been in a coma for over two weeks and i have not left your side. it gets quite boring and so i decided to start reading."
"wait, wait, wait. i've been in a coma for two fucking weeks?" i shout sitting up.
he nods his head, "i missed you so much."
i just look at him. admiring his new purple hair. "you stayed here. for two weeks. for me?"
"well not two weeks straight, i went to dye my hair. do you like it? 'cause if you don't, i'll change it."
"no. i love it. i love you." i tell him gripping his hand.
"i love you too. now i've got to inform the doctor that you're awake."
"yeah, yeah. you do that."
i sit and wait and a few seconds later i hear michael shout "she's awake!" i smile at this since i can hear his excitement. he's happy. i'm happy.
the doctor comes in with michael on his side. "nice to meet you, abby. my name is justin and i'm your doctor today."
"nice to meet you too," i reply. he has light blonde hair, like most aussies. i like his eyes. sure they're not as beautiful as mike's, but they're up there.
he bends down to check my blood pressure and do those doctor things. michael picks up his phone and calls someone.
"hey, mrs bader," he looks at me with a smile. since when did he have her number? "i was just calling to tell you that abby is finally awake."
and with that, i here her scream in excitement and her heels clicking the ground. damn, she was loud.
two minutes later, my mom and jimmy show up. i haven't seen him since the shooting, i wonder how he is doing. of course, he runs towards me before my mom can and hugs me so tight it hurt.
we sat there for a few minutes and then he whispered in my ear "i missed you so much."
wow that hit hard. it was so long since this all happened. have they even went back to school yet? did anyone?
my mom says her hellos and cuddles up with me on my bed. michael sits on the side closest to me and holds my hand as he reads his book.
"so, mike," i start breaking the awkward silence. he looks up. "how's the book?"
"it's pretty good," he replies back with a smile. "it's kind of weird. i kind of don't understand what's going on in it though."
i laugh, he's so adorable. the doctor walks in at the exact time i tell him how cute he is.
—
it's been a few weeks since i left the hospital. michael, luke, & calum haven't left my side since the day i walked out of that hell hole.
they've been practicing for a while and needed a drummer. they've also finally chose a name for their band during algebra. they wrote down multiple names and 5 second summer stuck out. they later changed it to 5 seconds of summer.
michael just sent a facebook message to ashton, lauren's older brother, to see if he would like to drum for them.
"do you think he'll say yes?" i asked them, stuffing my face with luke's potato chips.
"we're dorks," calum says while taking a chip. "he's too cool for us."
"yet again, luke did think you were to cool for him," michael tells us.
"look where you guys are at now," i pour out the left over coke cola from luke's party the other day.
"hey guys, i just wanted you to know that ashton just replied," luke informs us and michael jumps up and opens his phone.
"christ, take a shot whenever he says just," i mumble under my breath.
in the fakest, most gayest voice i've ever heard, luke replied, "what was that, abigail."
"i said take a sh-," before i can reply and maybe be attacked, michael screamed in little girl at one direction concert style.
"oh my god, mike, what the hell," calum screams back with a mouth full of chips.
"can you guys not eat all my chips, thanks," luke asks us.
as if on queue, calum and i repeat exactly what he said and managed to fit a handful of chips into our mouths.
"he said," the now purple haired kid took a looooong pause.
"what the hell did he say?" i ask across the stovetop.
"he said he'd love to," he starts. "and asked when the next practice is."
"right now xd," luke said. we all look at him. "what?"
"you did not just say xd out loud," i tell him, still have chips in my mouth. all of us still staring at him.
"what? you did to!"
"no i did not."
"yes you did! 'you did NOT just say XD out loud.'"
"oh my gosh, you're such a child."
"YOURE AN AMERICAN."
"YOURE AN AUSTRALIAN."
luke gasps, "WHATS WRONG WITH AUSTRALIANS?"
"I DONT KNOW. WHATS WRONG WITH AMERICANS?"
"I MEAN- FIRST OFF YALL AMERICANS."
my mouth stays open, finally have zero chips in my mouth.
michael is playing with a pokémon ball? where did he get that?
"okay so i texted him about the practice and he said he'd be here in a few minutes," michael puts into the air after a moment of silence.
