"Good morning, your highness." Viggo said with a smirk from beside you, as the sun rose over the horizon of the Ancient Changewing Island, for the second time since you'd unlocked the hidden world. You elbowed him as you opened your eyes.
"Watch it, Grimborn." you teased. You were still getting used to the idea that you could transform into a dragon, let alone that fact that you were now the queen of an entire island and species of dragon. As honored as you felt, you preferred Viggo not to use such titles. Then again, he knew that - he was just teasing you.
Waking up among the nests of Changewing eggs never ceased to amaze you. At night, the multicolored orbs lit up the grassy nests on the forest floor, like stars in the night sky. When you had first ventured into the forest, it had seemed imposing, but now you saw its utter beauty and gaped at the incredible scenery of the lush island. And who better to share it with than those you loved most? The only thing that pricked your heart with a pang of sadness was the absence of Vulcan, who had remained in the hidden world. Not all was lost though - your new abilities allowed you to telepathically communicate with him from time to time, and you intended to visit him as often as you could.
As you and Viggo got up, the rays of the sun warming you as you stood up, you saw Amethyst and Sclera rushing through the bushes ahead of you. Amethyst bounded to your side, and Sclera to Viggo's. You pressed your hand to Amethyst's snout, smiling at your amazing dragon.
"I wouldn't have done any of this without you." you whispered to her, and she pressed her snout closer to your palm in acknowledgment.
Suddenly, something drew your attention from the left. It was something in one of the nests - but it seemed...different... Pacing towards the nest, you looked down at the egg within it - it was a lot larger than a normal Changewing egg. The glistening crystal-like structure of a Changewing egg remained, with its fluctuating glow of colors, but the surface of the egg was alive with hundreds of tiny sparks that resembled the electric blast of a Skrill.
"Fascinating." you heard Viggo say from over your shoulder, as you observed the egg. You looked from Amethyst's to Sclera's eager faces, piecing the situation together in your head.
"Amazing." you responded. You turned to Viggo who was smiling, and kissed him, the action that had once felt awkward, now seeming natural to you.
You couldn't believe how much had happened in the last year - Viggo had come to understand dragons as equals; Amethyst had grown into a powerful young dragon; you'd left the Archipelago; found your brother; unlocked the hidden world and now, at last, you had found a place you could truly call home, surrounded by those you loved. Viggo wrapped an arm around you, as you leaned your head against him, the both of you looking at the spectacle of a Changewing-Skrill egg before you.
"Not bad for two outcasts." you said with a laugh.
"Not bad at all." Viggo agreed.
You were Y/n, queen of the Ancient Changewings, and you had finally found your place in the world beyond the Archipelago.
A/N: And that just about wraps this book up! Thank you so much to everyone who has so kindly read, voted on and commented on this book - I really do appreciate it! The fact that you have stayed with this story all the way from 'Deception' to this conclusion honestly means so much to me, and every single one of your kind comments has brought a smile to my face. I've really enjoyed writing this book, and I really hope you've enjoyed reading it. I know this probably sounds really cheesy, but I really can't imagine my life without writing and updating - so hopefully I will be writing more dragons-related stories in the future! Until then, thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy How to Train your Dragon 3: The Hidden World! :)
