Letting Go

Letting go of someone I love
Allowing him to fly solo
Without me he now must soar
Not knowing how or where he'll go
I love him more than I love me
That is why I let him go
My soul weeps as we say good-bye
I'm filled with grief but he now must go
Perhaps our paths will cross again
So I will know just where he's been
Today I see no hope of this
I watched him fly as I let him go
I cherish the time that was ours
A gift, an angel, a guide, we were
But it was borrowed, not ours to keep
So we did the honorable and we both let go
I know his heart was feeling grief
To watch me fly, to watch me go
A tender hug to say farewell
Then we both stepped back and we both let go
Perhaps our paths will cross again
So he will know just where I've been
The future is not ours to know
We must live for now
We must both let go
God, please protect and comfort him
He takes my heart to guide his way
I keep his heart to guide me too
Then with love and honour we both let go.
