Kate forced herself not to scream for help and tried to breath. It was so dark she couldn't see her own hand in front of her face. Her hands were secured above her head and she kept hearing what she thought were mice. Silently she prayed that nothing touched her as she tried to squirm free. Her mind was racing in a million different directions and it took everything she had not to start crying. At least he didn't bash her brains in with the bat and hadn't drawn any blood, yet. If she stayed put, It could mean something worse than death so she needed to figure out how she was going to get out before he came back, then again if he had intended to kill her he would have done it in the trailer.

In her head she was brought back to the hospital and it's dark hallways and dirty rooms. She could almost hear the screams of the patients and the squeak of metal as the carts and Gurney were rolled past. She knew very well that they had been save from the worst of it, had been constantly reminded how special they were and how easily they could go back to being treated like all the others.

She could still see the too red lips of the doctor's wife. Her cruel smile as she watched them from behind the glass. Her twisted games she liked to play, and the screams of the men that tried to touch her. There were also a lot of good memories as well, things like the smell of the rain on a warm summer day. The soft humming of her favorite nurse and the sweet smell of the smuggled in candy she liked to hand out.

Without that nurse she would never have survived. She would have been used up and tossed away, if the twins had not killed her first. She grew up wanting for nothing and never giving more than a moment thought to her horrible past. She had gone to school and graduated at the top of her class, adjusting as best as she could to her worsening mood swings and temper tantrums.

She had found a good job in a good town, buying a house and pretending to be normal. Thank god for Matty and Will, who never dug too deep or asked the wrong questions and only raised an eyebrow when she brought Daniel with her into the store. Matty. Poor Matty, and what would happen to Will without his summate? It occurred to her that she didn't know if they had killed both her friends or just the one that had helped her the most.

Growling a little she renewed her struggle, feeling the rope give a little. He must not have tied it too tight to begin with and she would be damned if she let them kill anyone else. Screaming out she yanked as hard as she could, pulling the hook from the damp rotted wood of the post she was hung up on. Freed she felt along the floor until her hands hit the steps leading up to the cellar doors. Praying it was not locked she shoved against the old wood, scaring the hell out of Zakk who was about ten feet in front of her.

" What the hell? " He moved to help her up from the cellar, his gaze going from her face to the barn and back. He looked scared to death and she felt sorry for him.

" I'm fine, no time to talk about it. " Kate's eyes welled with tears.

" We're too late Zakk. "

" I know. " He looked sad. " I sent Mia and Jessie to the car. You should go with them. "

" Jessie? Daniel's sister? " Kate's heart speed up.

" Yeah, she came here with Britt's sister and my little brother Alex. She said they were in the house but I didn't see them come out.

" Why don't you go...."

Zakk started to laugh as he pushed the wet hair out of his eyes. " I'm going into the barn. You can either come with me or go back to the car. "

" Safety in numbers right. You have to swear that if things go bad you will get out as fast as you can. "

" You don't need to tell me twice. " Grinning he took her and led the way across the muddy space in front of the barn, happy to not have to go in alone. They hurried out of the rain and into the large, heavily decorated barn. Britt must have spent thousands each year.

It didn't take long for them be to become separated as Kate made her way towards the bar.

Was it even legal for them to have a bar? Probably not, but this bar was nothing more than a piece of plywood laid over a couple of kegs. She quickly grabbed a cup of warm beer and drank it down, she was beyond thirsty as the band began to play her favorite song.

Kate almost screamed as someone touched her arm and was grateful to see, Scot with a pitcher of beer in hand and a huge smile on his face. " Hey! You made it out! " He shouted into her ear. "

He looked so happy as he pulled her into a half hug. " Where's your beer? "

" Oh I wasn't going to drink tonight. "

Scot gave her a quizzical look and she suddenly felt bad for not spending as much time with him as she should have. He had been a good friend over the years and meant a lot to her.

" Not drink. Yeah right, it's Halloween. "

Impulsively she shouted into his ear. " I know, but you need to get the group out of here, you need to leave."

" Leave? " He snorted. " They haven't even played any Pantara yet. "

" Scot, I'm not joking around....Something bad is going to....."

She didn't get to finish. Scot stiffened, his hazel eyes going wide and dark. The next thing she knew he was grabbing Colin by the shoulder and sucker punching the much larger man.

" What the hell! Scot stop! " Kate tried to grab Scot's arm and got shoved away, sending her sprawling onto the straw-covered floor.

Scot grabbed Colin's beer from his hand, smashing it over his head and both men went down swinging.
