Trez sat up screaming. His arms and legs flailing wildly as he fought a monster that was no longer there. It was dark except for the flickering candles that tossed crazy shadows onto the walls of the van. Blaze's van. The back doors were shut and as he looked around him he saw Blaze grinning from around the front seat at him.
" Hi. " Blaze held out his joint.
" Are you crazy! They are killing everyone! Everyone and you are sitting in here smoking up! "
" You would think I would welcome death? actually I do but it's so much harder for us to die. So you stay with us and you won't die either, besides your blood and theirs are the same. You are family to them. "
" How the fuck do you know that? " Trez got quiet, taking the offered joint. His eyes fell on the open book in Blaze's lap and his mouth fell open. " My book. You have my book. "
" Oh no. It's been with me the whole time. Did you not realize that? How could you not? "
" I almost died because of that book. "
" No. You didn't die because of this book. Be grateful. Daniel loves you so what else was I gonna do but protect you. "
Outside the rain was making it impossible to see. Trez wanted to go but his head hurt and something told him that Blaze was not about to let him leave the van. Where was Rem?
" Rem's in the barn with the others. " He chuckled.
" We have to stop them. They are going to kill everyone. " Trez began to cry again.
" Nope. I got this. " Blaze said softly.
He crawled over to trez and took his bleeding wrist. He stuck his finger in the wound, making him scream. He quickly painted a crude petagram on the van wall, opened the book and began to read. The van began to glow red, the black ink of the book slipped from the pages and spread out around their feet, black ink slithering hither and nither. Trez tried not to scream again as he backed up against the back of the passenger seat.
" Don't be scared....unless your afraid of the truly dead. " Blaze's eyes began to glow.
He began to chant and lift off the floor of the van. Trez began to laugh. He was having a damned nightmare. One he couldn't wake from. Outside, lightning was crashing down around them as peoples screams became less and less. The van had been parked on the other side of the barn, he has passed it on his way in so he knew where they were. Blaze settled back to the floor with a half smirk on his face. His eyes were back to normal. The black ink gone as was the glow.
" What did you just do. " Trez whispered.
" I woke the dead. " Blaze shrugged. " You might want to leave town after tonight. "
" You did what? "
" Ever seen Pet Cemetery? "
" I have to go. " Trez looked around for a weapon.
" And do what? Get knocked out again or worse? "
" You can't keep me here."
" Can't I? "
" No. Fuck that shit. I have to help them. "
" They don't need us. Stay. It won't be long. Want to hear my new song? "
Trez fought the urge to punch the smile off his face and reached for the back door. From outside he heard scraping sounds and froze. It moved across the windows, dark shapes that slowly moved away from them. Trez's skin began to crawl.
" Still want to go outside? " Blaze held out the keys to the van.
" No thanks. " Trez took the joint right from Blaze's mouth.
" Can you stop it? " Trez felt real fear crawling up his back.
" Do I want to stop it? "
" Yes. Please. "
" Your no fun." Blaze snapped the book closed and went back to drawing.
Whatever was going on out there he wanted no part of. He had had enough. He was freezing, hurt and suddenly very sleepy. What would a five minute nap hurt. Surly Mia would be right back with Jessie and Daniel and Zakk and everyone would have a good laugh........
