Sal x Mute Reader

I smile and play with my snow white furred cat Lilly. She's called Lilly because me and Mom found her in our lilly garden back at the old house in South Carolina. We we're watering them and planting more when Lilly showed up. I begged mom to keep here so we did.

I smile more as Lilly plays with the string in my hand. I try to laugh but nothing comes out. My smile fades and I look down. Lilly senses my sadness and nudges her head against my knee. I pet her and feel tears well up in my eyes.

You may be wondering why I can't laugh....or talk or make any sounds. Well it happened when I was little. When I was is South Carolina we lived in front of a set of woods. Well I was laying in the backyard with dad in the backyard pointing at differently shaped clouds. Neither of us expected it but a snake came out of no where and strike me in the neck.

My dad quickly got the snake off of me and rushed me to the hospital. When I got there they had hooked me up to a machine before the venom can spread but they couldn't save my vocal cords. The venom had already damage my vocals cords before they could get it out.

I start crying and hug my knees. My mom opens my door slightly. "Hey a kid is here. He says he's our neighbor an-" my mom looks at m and rushes to my side. "Hey what's wrong?" She asks hugging me. I look at her and point to my throat. "Oh sweetie I know you hate it but it'll be ok I promise." She says and hugs me tighter. I hug back and calm down.

She pulls away and smiles. "There's a kid who wants to meet you." She says wiping my tears. I nod an pick up Lilly. She purrs and licks my hand as me and Mom get up. We walk to the living room and I'm met with a blue pigtailed boy with a mask. "This is my daughter y/n." Mom says. "I'm Sal." The boy says.

I wave and smile. "I heard there were new neighbors so I wanted to come and meet you." He says. I nod as a thank you but I don't think he understood. "She says thank you." Mom says. "Oh can she not talk?" He asks. I shake my head and fight the urge to cry. "Yes and she very upset about the subject." Mom says.

"Oh ok I'm sorry I didn't know." He says. "It's ok it's not your fault." Mom says. I look at him curiously and mention to my face hoping he knows I'm curious about the mask. "Oh it's uh...it's a prostatic. I'd rather not say anything more." He says. I frown and look at mom. She looks back then at Sal. "She's sorry." Mom says. "It's ok. Hey wanna go meet Larry? He awesome." Sal says. I'm smile and nod.

"Be careful." Mom says as we leave. I keep Lilly in one arm and wave at mom with my free hand and leave with Sal to go meet Larry. The trip holds a comfortable silence. When we get in the elevator Sal puts in a key card in the slot under basement. I look at him confused and he looks back.

"He lives in the basement with his mom. His mom is the janitor of the apartment building." He explains. I make an 'o' shape with my mouth and nod. When we get to the basement we go to an apartment down there. Sal walks in and invites me into it. "Hey Larry Face the new neighbor is here." Sal calls out.

A tall brown haired and brown eyes boy emerges from one of the bedrooms. He smile and rests an arm on Larry's shoulder shoving his free hand in his pants pocket. "Hey lil dude." He greets Sal. He then looks at me and his smile grows. "I'm Larry." He says.

"That's y/n. She can't talk." Sal says. Larry looks at me and walks to me. He pats my shoulder and pets Lilly. "It's alright dude. Who's the cat?" He asks. I look at Lilly and smile as she purrs under Larry's touch. I look around and see a notebook and a pencil. I point to it and Larry nods.

I sit down on the couch and grab the notebook and pencil and write down Lilly's name. "The cat's name is Lilly?" Sal asks as I show him an Larry. "How'd you get the name?" Larry asks. I write down the story and show them. "aw that's so adorable." Sal says. "Flower. That's your nickname now." Larry says. I smile and clap. I love the nickname.

Larry smiles and looks at sal as he looks back. I pet Lilly and smile more as she purrs. I LOVE THIS CAT! Sal and Larry sit on either side of me and watch Lilly be cuddly and sweet. I smile and pet Lilly's tummy as she lays on her back in my lap. Lilly wraps her paws around my wrist and noms on my hand.

Sal and Larry smile and laughs at Lilly as she playfully chews on my hand. I smile and pick Lilly up. "She's so cute. I bet her and Gizmo would get along." Sal says. I look at him curiously as he looks back. "Oh yeah lil dude has a cat who watches TV." Larry says. I smile and Sal shrugs. "He's a chill cat." Sal says.

~a couple of years later~

Me and Sal have gotten really close. We introduced Gizmo and Lilly to each other they got a long. Larry loves Lilly so much. He says she's such a sweetheart. Ashley and Todd are really cool. Todd is teaching us all sign language so I don't have to write all the time and the others can understand me.

I think we'll use during class as well honestly. Ashley is teaching me art and in return I'm teaching her how to plant flowers and how to take care of them. Larry loves calling me flower cause he loves the fact that I can plant flowers. Sal loves giving me hugs. He says I'm really huggable.

I sit with Sal as we do our homework. I look at him and smile. "Do you know the answer to question 10?" I ask in sign language. We all have gotten the hang of it so far actually. "67." He says. I write it down and look at him again. He puts down his stuff and looks back.

He takes my stuff and puts it down beside his. I look at him confused and he tackles me into a hug. I blush and hug him back. "Y/n?" He asks and looks at me. I look back curiously and smile. "I uh.....I l-love you..." He says nervously. I smile and say "I love you too." In sign language. He hug me again and I hug back again.

I pull away and reach for his mask. He grabs my wrist to stop me and looks at me. "Can I...can I trust you not to run away?" He asks and I nod. He takes his mask off and looks at me. I place my hand on his cheek and kiss his other cheek. He blushes and looks at me. "I promise to always stay." I say in sign language. He smiles and kisses me. I kiss back and happliy hug him. He hugs back and Gizmo and Lilly jump onto the bed.

We smile as we pet them. They lay down together and we get back on to our homework. "Wait hold on." Sal says. He picks up a walkie talkie that Larry had gotten him. Everyone has one even me. Even though I can't talk they got me one so I can listen to their conversations when I'm down. They have the best conversations.

"Larry's Face guess what!" Sal asks. "What lil dude?" Larry replies. "Me and flower are dating." Sal says. "NO WAY! GOOD FOR YOU MAN!" Larry says happily. "Omg that's so cute!" Ash cuts in. "I'm happy for you both." Todd says. I smile and sal smiles back. "Me and Flower thank you." He says. My smile grows as he takes my feelings into consideration.

For the rest if the night we all give each other answers to the questions. Me and Sal cuddle after that with our cats at the end of the bed asleep. I smile and play with Sal's hair as he smiles back. "Wanna see if you can spend the night?" He asks and I nod. "You go to your apartment and ask your mom and I'll ask my dad." He says.

I nod again and pack my stuff. I go to my apartment leaving Lilly at Sal's and ask mom if I can spend the night. She keeps asking why so I have to explain what happened. She takes the news of me and Sal dating lightly and says yes to me spending the night. I smile and go to my room changing into pajamas since it's already late and get clothes for tomorrow.

I go to Sal's and he smiles. "My dad says yes." He says. I nod in agreementand we go to his room. I place my stuff down and cuddle with him again. "I love you." He says. I say "I love you too." I sign language and smile. He soon falls asleep and kiss his head and go to sleep myself.
