I was pretty surprised at Lucifer.

He said he'd be better?

What did that even mean?

I could feel the way his eyes bore the sight of me from behind as I walked, I could sense the, all too familiar, intensity of his gaze.

It really was sweet to me. Scary at the same time.

"How far are we going? Are we almost there? " I didn't look back at him yet prodded him with these questions nervously. He had flown us out in the middle of nowhere. The sky was darkened, all except for the twinkling of the stars and the fullness of the moon, and the tallness of the grass in the hills grew up to our waist. Stillness of the air and silence of the night was both uneasy and welcoming at the same time.

I could hear the quiver in his voice. It stirred even more. What was worst, was how hesitant he was to respond.

"Keep walking forwards. A little ways more. " He cleared his throat, not because he needed to, but because Lucifer needed to fill the silence somehow as they walked. Gentle steps crunching the soft grass beneath them.

He continued to watch while I did as he asked.

After all, I trusted him.

But my confusion grew as I stopped. Lucifer watching me with haunting eyes. There was a large patch of dirt, grass no longer grew there, and even the ground itself seemed dead. Cold even. So contrasting to the border of tall, thick, healthy plains that grew around it.

Lucifer walked in front of me, grabbing my wrist and pulling me along til we were in the center of the dead ground, he plopped himself down and sighed, motioning me to do the same. The air seemed stiffer. Colder?

I sat next to him awaiting an explanation.

At first he only admired the sky and I admired him in doing so. My ears perked up when he began to speak again.

"Many, many, years ago-" He started off pursing his lips and shaking his head. "In this very spot, a house stood. "

My brows furrowed but I held my tongue to listen. The pit of my stomach sank, although I didn't know why, and an odd feeling grew. Coldness ran through my veins and it almost seemed like Luce knew it as his eyes bore over my body. Yet he continued.

"You see-" His brows furrowed as he searched for the words and recalled his memory. "This house was on the outskirts of town. It was made of stone and wood, strong enough to withstand the winds and the rains-" Lucifer smiled a bit. "Perhaps even the heavens themselves. " He stopped and surveyed the the dry dirt beneath them, then the sky above.

"But it could not withstand the heat of the summer sun or the flames of a winter fire. You see, sometimes our chosen paths are already carved out Amelia. "

"Lucifer? " I interrupted rather abruptly. "Whyre you telling me all this? "

With a sigh he spoke again.

"I loved the girl whom resided in that house. " My heart sank at his words, not out of jealousy, but rather sympathy. "She was just a girl, when her parents passed. I took care of her, saw the flower that she grew to be, and I would've fought for her, but even I cannot outrun fate. I witnessed my flower crumble and it turned me into whom I am now. I sold my soul over for her. "

His eyes met mine and his finger tips grazed against my cheek as he leaned forward.

"Little flower-" He breathed. "I had thought I lost you forever. " He thumbed gently against my lip, and suddenly it was like I was drowning all over again, yet all I needed was a sudden sharp breath.

It was like my eyes could see! Had I been blind for this long? The very ground I sat on, the rotten dirt, the grass had never grown back. Suddenly, the very air filled my soul with such a sadness. And the sight of My Lucifer filled my spirits with a numb love.

I threw my arms around him, my heart sped up, how long had it been since I felt his touch?

"Oh Lucy! " Yet as he pulled away, realization washed over his face, and shock kept his mouth shut.

My hands found their way into my hair, it was much shorter than I remembered, and a darker shade at that. Nonetheless my body felt like it did years ago. Back when I walked along the streams clutching to the hand of my lover.

An icy jolt filled my blood stream, how strong I felt, powerful even. As if the world was mine. A soft smile caressing my soft features. Memories washed over me, both old and new, as if two souls were merging into one.

"I think I remember now. " My voice was but a whisper as I studied the fallen angels face.

"Clementine? " He breathed.
