It's a Monday morning, the day every working or schooling individual dread the most, but for Khalil, it is one of the most beautiful days in his life. He is still in the comfort of his bed covered in his soft blanket day dreaming about his wife. Yesterday night's event came flooding back. The way she looked so breathtaking, her elegant steps as she goes into the parlour, her melodious voice that took his breath away and those brown eyes that held him captive. Even though she was wearing a black jalabab, she still looked captivating. He knows she was trying not to impress him but that impressed him the more. Everything about her was perfect, perfect for him. He checks the wall clock, it's quarter past eleven. On seeing this he gets up to get ready, not wanting them to be late for their flight.

................

After, the bringing out luggage session, the hugging session, then crying session, the promises session, the forgetting something session, then more crying and hugging, moving to the car session and many more crying and hugging, they are finally at the airport. Their journey to the airport was a very awkward and silent. It was only the two of them with the driver. Khalil tried to start up a conversation but she didn't show any interest, alas he gave up.

On reaching the airport a Matte black G-class Benz was waiting for them to grace it with their presence, they were drove to their new home.

.................

It has been Two weeks since the arrived at their new home. Two weeks of them playing the cat and mouse game.
The past week Jalila has been engrossed in reading her mother dairy while trying her best to avoid her groom. Khalil on the other hand has been trying to see and talk with her, but failing miserably.
Today he decided to talk to her no matter what, he would be resuming work tomorrow and he needs to know how things are going to work.
It was a cool evening, so he made two cups of hot chocolate and went to her door. He knocked several times but she didn't respond, so he decided to go in.
'Assalamu Alaikum' he said turning the door knob
'Wa Alaikum mussalam come in' she replied 'I was hoping you will get tired of knocking and leave' she added
'Like I always do?' he asked smiling
'Yeah' she replied making him shake his head. As he walks in noticed her seating on a love seat by the window.
'Can I seat?' he asked
'Since you are already in here you might as well do' he sat on her bed at the extreme end
'Hot chocolate?' he offered, stretching a cup towards her
'Thanks' she said after accepting it
After taking a sip,she asked'What do you want?'
'To talk' he said looking up at her
'Go on, I'm all ears'
'I know things are not going the way you want, I know you never wanted to marry me,trust me I didn't plan on marrying someone who doesn't love me either but the deed has been done. We are a couple now and there is nothing we can do about it but to try and see that it works out. I can't promise to not make mistakes but I promise to try my best. I hope you will do the same'
'Are you done?' she questioned rudely
'Excuse me?' he asked surprised. He didn't expect this reply from her even though he knew he wasn't going to get the reply he wanted.
'I said are you done?'
'Yes' he replied
'Then,get out'
'What' he said in his half surprised and half shocked state
'Out, who do you think you are, just because my father married me off to you, you think you can come here and say nonsense, telling me to try and make things work, what things? Are you out of your mind?'
'What exactly did I say wrong here, I was just tryi..'
She cuts him off, saying'Yen Yen Yen Yen, get out of my room, I have more important things to do'
He slowly picked up his cup of hot chocolate and stood up still in shock and confused by what just happened. He left the room in shock trying to comprehend what happened. Immediately he stepped out of the room he heard the door being banged behind him.
What the hell just happened' he asked himself.
After recovering from his shock, he got ready and went out to clear his head.

Jalila on the other hand was beating herself up for acting the way she did. She couldn't explain what just happened, she was also just as confused as he was. She picked up her phone to call the one person that could help her, when it started ringing. Checking the caller ID she picked the call with a smile
'Babe'
'Assalamu Alaikum to you too'
'Wa Alaikum mussalam, I was just about to call you' Jalila confessed
'Hmmm, you don't have to lie' replied the person on the line
'I'm serious' Jalila said
'Whatever, how's Khalil doing' asked the person on the line
'He's fine, I think' she replied with a small voice
'Jalillaaa' warned the other person
'Farrrahhh'
'Don't tell me you guys are still not talking to each other' Farrah said
'Ok, I'm not telling you' she replied
'Girl I'm serious'
'He tried talking to me today but I got angry and told him to leave'
'What exactly made you angry
I don't know, I just don't like seeing him around plus, it's his fault, why should he leave when I told him to
Seriously, you've got to be kidding me, I thought we've talked about this already?'
'We did but you know this won't be easy for me'
'I know but you need to trust me on this, give him a chance, at least be friends, you might need him in the future'
'Alright, I will try, I promise'
Thats my girl, need to go, so bye'
'Whatever'

02/03/1985
It was Friday morning when mama send me to buy her some grinded groundnut from the next house but being the child that I was, I desided to go somewhere else. I was on my way back when I got stopped by Zainab. I was wondering were the rest of her gang members were when she pushed me to the ground. I was 10 then but I looked 7. I knew she would beat me up so I stood up and started running. Just when I rounded the corner to my house, I collided with something which send me to the ground again. Between trying to get up, I realised it wasn't something but rather someone. A very know person know as the half-caste. The girl nobody is allowed to be friends with. Why? Because she was born out of wedlock. Her father is a white man who left her mother before she was born but the mother still believes that he will come back for her. There for, no girl is allowed to associate with her.
With a worried face she stretched her hand and helped me up. I turned around to pick up when I realised it has all spilled on the ground. I started thinking of what to do or say when I get home, when she said ' I'm sorry, let's go my house my mother will give us some money to buy another one, I will tell her what happened'. Not knowing what to do,I just nodded and followed her. And that was the beginning of my friendship with my best friend sa'adatu.
