A Predicament

James was naked. What? He surely didn't remember taking his clothes off last night. He barely even remembered the party, the alcohol.

He shifted, feeling someone next to him.. What? James opened his eyes, letting them fall on the sleeping boy beside him.

James' breathing stopped. This couldn't be happening. No, no, no, no, this would ruin everything.

James quickly looked around the room, his door was shut and all the curtains were drawn. James silently thanked god that there was only a small chance that someone had noticed the two of them disappearing last night.

His eyes fell back to the boy in his bed. His brown curly hair sticking up in a few places. James allowed himself to take the other in, raking his eyes over the younger's chest. He was having a hard time believing that they actually hooked up. James couldn't remember it.

He found it ironic; the one boy he'd been dying to get with and he couldn't remember it. Now James was left with an impossible choice. Wake the other and figure out if he remembered anything from
last night or just ignore the whole thing and lock himself in the bathroom.

By the time James took a shower the other boy should be awake. He could put his clothes on and pretend it never happened. James wouldn't bring it up, that's for sure.

Avoiding the unavoidable awkwardness of waking up with your best friend was proving to be harder than he thought though, because before James could make up his mind, the boy next to him was stretching and turning in his sleep.

James watched the younger boy's eyes flutter open, the immediate shock that followed with realizing where he was and a final look of horror when he realized he, too, was not clothed.

Grayson Dolan's head snapped to the side. Their eyes met and Grayson froze again; he almost looked..terrified? Which made James feel a little self conscious. He couldn't blame the younger though. He was straight and he'd made sure to make that clear to James.

Neither of them spoke for a long time, just looking at each other, no doubt probably trying to come to terms with whatever could have happened between the two of them.

Grayson couldn't take it anymore, he broke the silence. "Did, uh- what happened last night?" He asked, brining a hand to his forehead as he closed his eyes to groan. "Oh my god. My head." The migraine he had made the situation ten times worse.

James resisted the urge to crack a smile; he'd warned Grayson about drinking too much. The joke left his mind no quicker than it came and the awkwardness settled back in. "I don't remember anything." He replied, watching the younger sit up, the blankets pooling around his waist as he did so, exposing him even more.

James made it a point to look the other way as Grayson started to pick his clothes from last night off the floor and put them on. A sinking feeling settling in Grayson's stomach when he had to move James' clothes to get to his own.

"Anything?" Grayson repeated, standing up when he was finally clothed again. Grayson turned to look at James, still nude under his blankets.

James sighed. "I remember going to get drinks for Emma and Ethan around midnight and everything after that is.." He trailed off, waving a hand.

Grayson sighed and ran a hand through his curls, closing his eyes for a moment before reopening them to look at James and drop his hand to the side. "Maybe nothing happened."

James shot Grayson a look. He knew the other was straight, but this wasn't exactly something they could just ignore.

Grayson started up again, seeing James' eyebrows pushed together. "I mean, neither of us remember it. I sleep naked when I'm home, for all we know I could have thought I was at home. I really don't remember us being that close last night."

James didn't know what to say. Half of him was relieved; he should have been, he'd contemplated ignoring the situation before the other woke up, but now that Grayson was doing just that James couldn't feel more disappointed in himself. He didn't hide from things. He'd always been true to his feelings.

Grayson was straight though. James had to remember this. Whatever happened last night didn't change that. The younger boy was probably freaking out just knowing that something might of happened. So James agreed. "Right." He said. "Yeah, yeah, that sounds right."

"Right." Grayson repeated. "Well, I'm gonna go.." His words felt wrong, but he had to get out of there. His mind was racing and he needed to get away from James before he said something he'd regret.

James should have seen it coming, but having Grayson announce so pointedly that he was leaving was not usual. It made James feel insecure again. It was a weird feeling to feel not good enough for someone. James couldn't look at it that way though; Grayson was straight.

He couldn't be not good enough for someone who didn't even like boys in the first place.

James didn't say anything, afraid of making it more awkward that it already was. Out of all the people he'd invited to that party, he had to end up in bed with Grayson?

When the older didn't reply, Grayson sighed. "Okay," He mumbled. "I'll see you..later, tomorrow or something." He said and left the room and the house before James could even reply, let alone stop him. If he would have tried to that is.

Grayson's departure had brought James back to the real world. Grayson was his best friend. They couldn't let this come between them.

In the meantime, James needed a shower. He didn't quite feel disgusting, but he definitely needed to get clean. He needed to wash away last night, even if he couldn't remember it.
