Your POV
I woke up to the alarm I set for taking Payton to school. However, the two girls beside me did not arise with me. I shook Lauren causing her to groan and mumble, "Five more minutes."
I rolled my eyes. "Lauren," I whispered as I shook her again. "I gotta get Payton ready for school."
Her eyes snapped open as her head shot up . "We're not late are we?" I shook my head. "Okay good," she laid her head back down, "five more minutes."
I rolled my eyes again and turned to Payton. "Payton honey wake up," I lightly shook her.
She groaned and mumbled just like Lauren, "Five more minutes." Lauren chuckled.
I looked at Lauren. "Help me get her up." She groaned but got out of bed and walked to Payton's side.
"Payton, you gotta get up for school," Lauren reminded her. She groaned. "Come on, you're gonna be late." Payton didn't get up.
I sighed. "Don't make me tickle you."
Her eyes snapped opened. "I'm up!" She looked at me. "Are you gonna tickle me?"
"Not if you can get your butt out the door in fifteen minutes." She jumped up and started to get dressed as I went to prepare her oatmeal. Lauren followed me. "You hungry?" I asked her.
She nodded. "Yeah, but we can grab something to eat after we drop off Payton."
I nodded. "Okay." Then Payton came out all ready to go. She sat down at the table and I placed her bowl of oatmeal in front of her. She quickly finished it and we were out the door. The drive to the school was quiet. Once we arrived we went in to drop her off. The teacher was waiting at the door greeting everybody.
When she saw us she gave a sad smile. Once we reached her she kneeled down to Payton's height. "Hey there Payton," she smiled.
"Hi Ms. Flores!" Payton exclaimed before running into the classroom.
Ms. Flores then turned to me as she held out her hand. I shook it. "I'm so sorry for your loss," she sympathized. I gave a sad smile. "So are you Payton's older sister or cousin or what?"
"Umm," I hesitated, "actually I'm her mom."
"Ohhhh," her face lit up. "You look so young how old are you?"
I hesitated again but Lauren grabbed my hand and squeezed it. "Eighteen."
Her face fell. "Oh, if you don't mind me asking, how did you end up with her so young?"
I looked away as I bit my lip not wanting to remember. Lauren squeezed my hand again and spoke up for me, "Not to be rude, but it's really none of your concern."
"Yes of course, I'm sorry," she apologized. At least she didn't push. "Now excuse me I need to start my class." She then walked inside the room as we left. We got back to my car and once we got in I banged my head on the steering wheel.
"Whhhhyyyy?" I groaned.
Lauren chuckled at me. "Babe, calm down."
"I can't!" I exclaimed. "That always happens when people find out I'm Payton's mom. They start questioning me and I don't know how I'm supposed to say 'oh I was raped when I was twelve but had her when I was thirteen'."
"Then don't explain," Lauren shook her head. "If you don't feel comfortable answering their questions then tell them it's none of their business."
"I guess," I paused. "So where you wanna eat?"
She shrugged. "I don't know."
I gave her a look. "You're the one who suggested we go out to eat."
"Doesn't mean I know where we gonna go!" Lauren exclaimed. "You choose."
"But I'm indecisive."
"Well so am I."
"But then what are we going to do?"
"Not eat I guess."
"Fine, I guess I'll starve to death."
"NO!" Lauren exclaimed. "I guess we're going to Blueberry Hill."
I rolled my eyes as I started to car engine. "Now you decide."
"I refuse to let you starve to death," Lauren crossed her arms.
I chuckled as I pulled out of the school parking lot and started to drive to blueberry hill. "You know, you being so determined to keep me alive is adorable."
Lauren smiled brightly. "Tanks," she said in a kid voice. Then we arrived at the restaurant. We were seated and quickly ordered our food already knowing what we wanted. As we were waiting we made small talk.
"Soooooo how's the weather?" I asked awkwardly not knowing what to say.
Lauren laughed at me. "What are you doing?"
"Trying to make conversation," I answered. She continued to laugh. "I'm awkward okay!"
She calmed down. "It's okay baby, I still love you."
My eyes went wide. She did not just say that. She did not just say that. She did not just sa- she just said that. Holy shit. I smiled knowing that I felt the same. I just didn't want to say it first.
Lauren looked at me weird. "Why are you smiling like that?"
I chuckled. "You don't even know you said it, do you?"
"Said what?"
I bit my lip to try to contain my smile. "That you love me."
Her eyes went wide. "Did I re-"
"Yup."
"Oh," she paused as she looked down, "Sorry."
"Don't be." I grabbed her chin making her look up. "I love you too."
She smiled just as big as me. "Re-"
"Yup."
That's when our food came. We ate and talked and had an overall great time. After that we went back to my place. We were watching a movie when I noticed Lauren wasn't watching the movie rather watching me. I looked at her. "Are you gonna stare at me the whole time?"
She thought about it. "Yeah, pretty much."
I nodded. "Okay then." After watching a few more movies it was time to pick up Payton. We made our way back to the elementary school and picked her up. Once we were back home we relaxed. Today was a good day.
Hope you enjoyed tell me what ya thought
