After I had finished listening to my all of a sudden philosophical thoughts I could hear the sound of lots of scratching on a hardwood floor coming from a part of the apartment I couldn't see but I knew it would be approaching soon from the increase in its volume and I braced myself for what was about to come around the corner.
A blur of a tan and white ball came skidding on the floor and as it got closer I realised it was the most harmful thing known to man; A tiny, wrinkly, chubby, bulldog puppy yapping at me as it scampered on the varnished wood floor. It crashed into my legs but it didn't even push me because he was so small
He shook his head quickly recovering from his lost battle against my legs he stood on his hind legs and started to jump and scratch at my pure white jeans. I wasn't sure whether I should pick him up or kneel down on the floor and stroke him instead. You never know how to react around someone else's dog; what if the owner doesn't like their dog's getting used to being picked up, what if they don't want to teach them that scratching means they get stroked as a reward, And what if th-
"Oh just pick them damn dog up!" Austin chuckled interpreting my thoughts and rolling his eyes "We really don't put that much thought into his lifestyle, we're demons we don't stick to rules ourselves so why we train our pets otherwise?" Austin asked
I took his question as rhetorical and picked the little bulldog from under his front legs and picked him up so he was eye level. He was even more adorable up close and not a just a blur of movement. Fighting against him trying to wriggle from my grasp and lick all over me I managed to grab the golden name tag attached to the gold loop of his dark green leather collar.
Our Gutter - It read the engraving on the tag and on the flip side had a number which I could only assume was one of the member's of this households numbers
"Gutter?" I asked curious about the name
"There are lots of reasons behind that name so I won't bore you with a list of details just these two I'll tell you now, He constantly hungry so It is referencing his huge gut and how he can push anything into there without filling up and because we didn't like the sound of just 'Gut' so we put an extra ending there, so here we have Gutter," He said with a sigh like he's rehearsed it a million times and then continued to walk towards the couches to the right of the door
From Austin's tone and how he just continued to walk as he talked I sensed he didn't care much for Gutter
"You would be correct there, Fallen. For an angel, you're brighter than I thought you would be," He smirked knowing that sentence would receive a scowl from me and I'm ashamed to say he got what he wanted
"You're the dim one for not adoring this little guy," I replied as I placed Gutter on the floor since he was wriggling around
"That mutt is nothing but trouble," He defended lamely
"Wow you both have a lot in common I'm surprised you don't get on like a house on fire," I gasped walking closer to the light grey material couch he was now reclined into.
"Don't compare me to the chode-like dog," He growled
Chode-like? I questioned in my head and narrowed my eyes at him in confusion
"You know, small wrinkly and fat," He shrugged and I looked at Gutter and burst into laughter as I realised the comparison
"Aww that's so mean," I pouted to try and stifle my laughs
"likewise," He smirked at my laughter to imply my laughter was just as mean.
"Stop bullying the poor thing," This elegant soft voice said from the corner that Gutter came from
I turned away from the couches to see who was gifted with a beautiful voice like that; This gorgeous lady stood looking towards me. I looked her up and down to take her in as I did for Austin.
To start she had this beautiful straight but somehow also wavy dark blue hair that was full of volume and just perfect, no split ends or strays sticking up, framing her naturally contoured face she was covered in dark blue and black make-up but not covered to hide anything, if anything it just accentuated the natural beauty she already had, her eyes were like the pools of black Austin had but where her irises would be she had rings of blue not confined to a solid ring but more of a soft ring of dark blue clouds. As I looked further down I saw her blemish-free skin on her neck and shoulders and then her outfit, avoiding the temptation of staring at her perfectly perky breasts, she was wearing strapped, backless, thigh split evening gown that showed off the perfect curves of her waist into her hips. my eyes followed the high split in her dress down to her blue jewelled stilettoes.
"And who is this in our living room," She smiled softly at me and I snapped out of the stare she obviously noticed
"Oh it's me,Austin, Jazmine" Austin chuckled biting his lip and walking over to her "you know the guy you can't keep your hands off," he smirked and held her from behind and moved her hair and started to kiss all over her neck I watched her melt for a second when she closed her eyes but she quickly composed herself and pushed him softly away from her
"I think someone has the order a little flipped around in their head, sweetie," she smiled at him and he bit his lip again and stared at her then drifted a little south from her face which she corrected by lifting his her with her index finger under his chin "Now am I going to be introduced or are you going to make me get my beautiful hands dirty?" she giggled softly
"Oh there's a lot of things I want t do and making you dirty is one of them," he growled primally at her she rolled her eyes along with a shake of her head and walked past and away from him and towards me, without even thinking I delicately picked up her hand and kissed her knuckles
"Enchante, I'm Desmond Harp, and you are, Miss?" I asked, did I just speak French?! I've never learnt a word in my life, I didn't even think about saying that it just came out of my mouth like an instinct
"Aww, Angel are we?" She smiled
"Fallen!" Austin called over just before he left the living room and I nodded at her
"I apologise, sweetie, I have that effect on humans and angels, making them address me like I'm royalty, don't worry it usually only stays around for introductions," She smiled confidently
"Let me guess, Miss Pride?" I asked knowing which sin she empowered
"Miss Jazmine Pride, well done, now can I know this fallen guy's story?" She smiled and I instantly felt confident enough to tell her even though I've known her all of two minutes, I trust her like I've known her all my life.
