he remembers when they were kids

she would sell her sister for bids

when they played together

she told him "forever"

but she broke her promise

she never really was an optimist

he would hold her hand

while they listened to their favorite band

they didn't know much about life

she didn't know she would have to pay the ultimate price

the next year her sister died of lung cancer

the cigarettes finally got to the young dancer

now that was the year she started cutting

never again would she hear the music of her sisters drumming

that was the year she started slipping away

that was the year her feelings for me started to give way

she loved playing her guitar for me

but that year she started to disagree

I told her, her playing was amazing

but she said she was to amateur for him

after she started drinking whiskey

the guys started looking at his baby

she was so close and he wanted to stay

but she was also so far away

after a while he started losing her to the guys calling dibs

but back then, they were only kids.
