he could have saved her

he knows about his failure

at that party she had her favorite dress

but inside she was just a mess

she drank to much that night

so he helped her before she got in a fight

as she sat in his truck

he couldn't believe his luck

he wanted her so bad

but she flew like a plastic bag

the next day she couldn't remember

and it hurt him to the point of his surrender

so he backed away like a good man

but was secretly still her biggest fan

in her diary each day she wrote of him

but didn't have the courage to step over the rim

now the rim separated her and him like a wall

that was just to tall.

so the days went on and the number of bullies grew

but he just couldn't see it through

he tried to help her once he saw the scars

after her sleeves fell down her arms

but time just grew them apart

until she fell off the cart

so now he sits at her grave

wishing he wasn't so afraid.
