A.N.

Hey guys! I got too excited for this and decided on a double update!! Tell me what you think?

"Okay um... Chloe, I'm not normal..."

I wanted to pipe in with my usual remarks, but the pain in his eyes made me keep my mouth shut.

"In fact, I'm not actually human..." his voice trailed as he studied my face.

"Is this some kind of  joke to you? Are you purposely trying to get to me to bully me?" I demanded, rising to my feet.

"What are you talking about?" The grief in his voice almost stopped my tantrum...

...almost.

"You asked me earlier if I wanted to be more than human, only to use it as a way to tease me? What kind of person does that? Was eating lunch with a loser like myself your good deed of the year?"

"Chloe, listen to me!" He begged.

"No, you listen to me!" I yelled. "I'm tired of being hurt and being lied to!"

"And you think I'm not?" He exploded, all the fight leaving me.

I just stared at him, my mouth hanging open.

"I've been on this earth for 279 years, Chloe. You think I've not tasted betrayal or hurt? You think you're the only one entitled to feel pain? I'm not human! I can prove it if you stop attacking me!"

Tears slid down my cheeks, I clenched my jaw and narrowed my eyes at him.

"Go on." My voice shook violently.

"I'm not alive. Neither is my family. We died a very, very long time ago... but we're not dead..."

"So what are you? Vampires?" I joked half heartedly.

"No, we're not necessarily vampires... We died a tragic death, before our time, and because of that we was reborn into our bodies along with something else..."

"Along with what?" I asked softly, sitting back down into the bed, a bit closer to him this time.

"Something that makes us vulnerable to the living if we're caught...because we cheated death... we've gained immortality and we can't age.. However, my heart still beats. My brain works. I eat human food... it's just.. we've gained otherworldly powers. We can conjure up the dead, we can control the elements, we can see the future, and we can fly, along with a few other things."

"Prove it." The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop them.

"I'll prove anything you want me to prove, but it'll have to be later. Your father is home."

I heard the front door open.

"I'll be back later." He walked to the window and slung one leg out and then the other, his lower half dangling from my second story window.

"Are you-"

It was too late, he had already slide out of my room. I dashed to the window and peered out, my eyes finally landing on him. He was already on his front porch, sitting on the steps, his eyes trained on me.

"Oh shit." I muttered, breathing shakily and pulling my head back in.

"Chloe?" My dad called from right outside my door.

"Yeah?" I asked, turning to face my closed bedroom door.

"I left a little earlier today, I figured we could go out and get something to eat? Some steakhouse maybe?"

"Uh sure. I'll be right down!"

My stomach growled at the thought of steak while my head spun with emotions.

Was Hayden... a demon? An angel? What kind of category does he even begin to fall in?

I finally make a friend, and come to find out, he's dead.
