Lunch came and my eyes scanned the school, looking for the blondie who's heart I broke.

"Emma's not going to lunch." A deep voice answered my thoughts.

I swiveled to see Hayden staring at me, his hands crammed into the pockets of his jeans. I took this moment to scan his chosen outfit.

He wore a black hoodie, with Shinedown across the front with dark blue jeans. By the time my eyes reached his shoes I could already guess what he was wearing. I nodded inwardly at my correct assumption, he wore beat up converse.

"Stunning, aren't I?" He teased, taking a step back.

"Yeah actually."

Well that's the way to do it Chloe, tell him how ya really feel, I thought to myself.

"I mean, I've seen worse..." my checks burned furiously.

"Something tells me you haven't." He replied rather smugly.

"Okay jerk face. We get it. You're cute. Now will you tell your sister I'm sorry for hurting her feelings earlier?"

He smiled at me, he had perfect white teeth and I found myself trying not to smile back at him.

"I might." He stared at me.

I stared back.

"Okay this is just awkward now. What more do you want?"

"I need someone to sit with at lunch." He shrugged.

"Someone like you can sit wherever they pleased and they'd be accepted. I get my lunch on the go and find an empty classroom to eat in."

"Then I'll join you."

My heart seemed to stop. This dudes mood swings makes me feel better about my own.

"I'd rather you, a bipolar piranha, eat with the rest of the people. I'm not normal."

"I can promise you that I'm not either."

"Okay apart from your ability to act like you get periods, what's so different about you? Do you get talked about? Do kids laugh when they see you? Do you fall over nothing?" I was getting a few odd glances from a couple of kids that belonged to the chess club as they headed to the lunchroom.

"No, but-"

"Then please leave me alone about being different."

I turned to stalk away from the sex god but he grabbed my arm.

"If you're such an outcast then believe me, you should be the last person to judge someone before you know them."

He was right, I've let my fear of rejection turn me into a bitter person. Besides, it has been a lonely 18 years for me.

"Fine. You can eat with me, but only because I'm lonely."

"Not because your weird crush on me?"

"That certainly helps." I muttered, his laugh following me all the way to the cafeteria.
