The next morning Mark was pouring coffee into his to go coffee mug. "Honey are you going somewhere?' Carrie said as she came in.
"Yeah I'm going to somewhere today and talk to someone about something." he said when he saw his daughter walk in half asleep.
He grabbed his truck keys and kissed them both on the cheeks. Then he got in his truck and headed north to Fort Jackson. He got up to the army base gate and showed them his ID and said he was there to see Lt Col James Barnes.
He made his way over to the main building and seen his secretary who was very pregnant. "Hi I'm Retired Lt Col Mark Thomas is James in." Mark said
"Yes he is do you have a appointment." she said
"I don't need one." he said as he hit the button and said "James it's Mark are you available."
"Mark Thomas?' James said
"Yes sir." he said
"Get your ass in here." James said
Mark walked into his office and shut the door. "Wait where's your PTs at man?'
"I'm retired." he said as he hugged him.
"What's going on with you how's the wife and daughter." James said
"Carrie's good. Can't say the same for my daughter." he said
"What's wrong with Addie Jo?' James said
Mark sighed and said "James let's cuts the shit.. My daughter attends James's high school and her first day there he acted like he had no idea who she was and I know my daughter has grown up some but not that much that she looks different."
James said "What does that have to do with me."
"According to her friends your son has been smoking pot smoking cigarettes binge drinking he's driving a motorcycle having sex with multiple partners and Winnie has no idea how to reign him in he's 17 years old James he acted like he had no idea who me or Carrie were last night when we had them over for dinner. When Winnie asked if he remembered being at Fort Bragg he said that he would rather not think about the military. Your son needs you James he's going to get himself killed or get a girl pregnant and Winnie said that after the divorce happened he started to become this person now doesn't that seem like a cry for help James that's your son how could you just push him out of your life cause you got a new family started." Mark said
James looked down and said "Because when we told him about the divorce he yelled at me saying that he never wanted to be like me and that he hated the military cause all it did was take everything."
"James he was 14 years old how many times did you tell your dad that you hated him." Mark said
"But it's different Mark James thought the world of me then when we tell him he's leaving with Winnie and I stayed in KS he got upset with me and asked if that's what we tried to do with him and Addalynn."
"James he needs you now or you are going to be attending a funeral within a year and my daughter will be even more heartbroken. She kept her end of the promises they made in their little wedding but it's breaking her watching him flirt and shoving his tongue down other girls throats and having to hear girls on the cheer squad about how they have slept with him. Winnie said he's draining his savings account and using a fake ID." Mark said.
James wiped a few tears and said "Okay.. "
He walked out of his office with Mark and said "Susie I'll be back in a few days I have some business to attend to."
James followed Mark down to Macon and pulled up in front of Winnie's house. Mark knocked on the door then Winnie answered "Mark?"
"I bought some back up is your son home." he said
"Yeah he's in his room." she said
"Get him." Mark said as he moved to let her see James.
"James.." she whispered
"Actually don't go get him. Room downstairs or upstairs." he said
"Downstairs but he's asleep." she said
"It's almost noon Winnie." James said as he walked downstairs.
He saw his son passed out on his bed with beer bottles and a half smoked joint on his ashtray. He pulled him by his ear "OW OW OW" Bucky yelled
"Boy you are about to get a ass whoopin." he said as he threw his son in the shower turned on the cold water.
"Dad?'" Bucky said
"James Buchanan Barnes I didn't raise you to be like this. Drinking smoking pot basically doing everything you can to get yourself killed not to mention multiple sexual partners James what the fuck is going on with you." James said
Bucky sat there confused as hell as to how he knew then Mark walked in and poured ice on him. "Addalynn told you then you go run to my dad." he said
"No James Addalynn has Natasha over who told her what happened to you I just happen to overhear it then your mother was almost in tears last night cause she doesn't know how to help you so I made a trip today to get your dad." Mark said
"Get dressed" James said
Bucky got out of the shower then he got dressed. "Get your shoes on we are going for a run." They made him run till he puked while Winnie and Carrie cleaned out his room and bike compartments and truck compartments. James took him to the health department to get him tested to make sure he was using protection and put a freeze on his savings account.
He cut up his fake ID in front of him and he said "Dad."
"Now I'll be down here every weekend to make sure you keeping yourself out of trouble and believe me Mark will let me know if you aren't son. I messed up with your mom and I'm sorry but that doesn't mean you make her life a living hell by keeping her worried all the time that you aren't coming home or that you got some girl pregnant." James said
"Yes sir." he said as he looked down.
"Now Mark go get your beautiful daughter of yours we are going to dinner." James said
"Okay." Mark said as he called Addalynn.
Addalynn pulled in a few minutes later and walked in and she heard "Now there's no way that beautiful blonde is little Addalynn Joanne."
"oh you stop it Big daddy James." Addalynn said as she walked over to him and hugged him.
"You've grown up so beautifully you must take after your mama and that's a good thing." James said
"Let's hope." Addalynn said
Bucky looked down and still was blocking his military days so he still couldn't figure out how she knew his parents. "Let's go to dinner." James said
They all met up at Texas Roadhouse and ate dinner but James told everyone that he wanted no military talk because he wanted Bucky to figure it out on his own. The next morning Bucky walked out to his dad who was about to head home.
"Son I want you to go to therapy." James said
"But dad.." Bucky said
"No son you have a lot of stuff to deal with and you need help." James said
Bucky looked down and he said "Okay." then hugged his dad bye and James said "See you next weekend. Can't wait to see you play big boy."
He smiled and said "Thanks dad." then went back inside to do his homework.
