" your hair is too nappy"
" ohhh you got some good hair, what are you mixed with?"
" black girls wear weaves to have hair like white girls"
" natural hair isn't for her"
Growing up as a black girl with 4c hair, I definitely didn't get complimented by my peers about my hairstyles often. Either you had " good hair" or your shit got called a brillo pad. My grandma always used to tell people " all hair is good hair" and I didn't really understand until now, and she was right.
First off...how exactly is hair too nappy..? Or natural hair not for certain people..? I mean it's understandable to not want to deal with it, natural hair is definitely a lot to keep up with. From the washing and constant deep conditioning, detangling, the styling process, etc...it's understandable that some people really don't have time, or simply would rather use protective styles. But that still doesn't make the words " natural hair isn't for me" make sense. Natural hair literally...grows from your scalp..like...it's for you.
Every time I see a woman with grade 4 hair I see her getting bashed for wearing something that literally grows out of their head lmfao..and the worst part is, it's mostly black people doing the bashing. Which is another topic for another day, because lord knows I have A LOT to say about the hate we show towards each other. But I genuinely don't see what's wrong with nappy hair, and it may be because I myself have the nappiest of the nappiest hair lol, but still. Black women have hair like nobody else, our hair literally takes form of whatever we want it to, that isn't dope? Society doesn't see that as something special?
Black women even get bashed when we wear weaves or wigs. It's not a form of self hate, nor is it because we want to " be like white women". I'm sorry but I've never been looking for a weave or wig and searched for " Caucasian bone straight" or " white girl light wave ". Sorry to say but, y'alls hair doesn't do us much justice lol, it's cute tho. Just please stop washing to everyday, it's tired sis.
People get perms to have curly and coarse hair and get praised but we don't get compliments for what grows from our heads? Like... what?
I remember constantly relaxing my hair just to get my edges to lay or to be able to put my hair up in a slick bun because everybody else was doing it, so why not and the girls that wore their hair like that got the most attention. Hours and hours of being frustrated because my curls kept springing up while I was trying to gel my hair back, sometimes to the point where I cried. My whole freshman year was spent obsessing over my appearance and making sure my hair laid, even if it meant cutting off the circulation to my head from tying my scarf too tight the night before. I just wish somebody would've told me a long time ago,
Your hair isn't meant to lay down on its own. It's meant to be free and wild.
I know some of y'all are gonna read that and think I'm crazy or something LMFAO but it's the truth.
Our hair is " nappy" and can't be tamed for a reason. Sure styling is one thing, a cute pony tail every now and then is clutch ( still can't do one on mine but ok). Two space buns..cute shit. But obsessing over making sure your hair is silky and whatnot, ain't it.
Think of it this way...if we damage our hair when we flat iron or hot comb it..don't you think it's because we aren't supposed to do it often? 💀 your hair after stepping out the shower on a wash day, is literally a whole look, but society has our minds thinking that what grows from our head isn't " classy" or " appropriate". How can something that grows from my head not be appropriate? Yet something that grows from Becky's head is? (No offense Becky 😂) Shit honestly boggles my mind.
Black hair is beautiful.
Your hair is classy in its natural form.
Your fro is elegant.
Nothing is wrong with your " nappy" hair.
Don't get me wrong. Wear your hair however you want.
You want some extentions? Get em sis.
You want a 360 lace front wig? Make sure it's laying right and slay that shit.
You wanna silk press your hair? Do it.
But do these things because you like to wear your hair that way, not because you're ashamed of your natural hair.
Trust me, learning to love it is rough. When I say rough, I mean rough. But I truly believe that's only because I wasn't taught from a young age to love it ( no shade to my mom but * conceited meme*).
There's still days where I won't wear my natural hair out because it's not long enough or I don't know how to style it, plus my forehead looks huge but..I'm working on accepting it for what it is. It's definitely easier said than done, but it's what you deserve. You deserve to love yourself, from your hair to your skin and everything else.
Don't let society brainwash you. Trump is our president, I think it's time to stop listening to everybody else anyways LMFAO.
so,
Wear that high puff tomorrow
Do you a twist out, just make sure to seal in all moisture with an oil.
Go deep condition your hair, it's what she deserves.
If you don't know any styles, YouTube and Pinterest are the plug.
Also, try the rice water method for growth. I heard it works.
You don't have to wait til your stylist is open to re-do your sew in to leave the house. You look good either way
Flaxseed gel is the bomb, look it up.
And pls remember,no matter the texture, your hair is good hair.
