Chapter Three: Broken

*Ashlyn POV*

It had been three days since I found out about my family's death. I hadn't left the house at all. I didn't want to deal with the crowd of photographers and news casters outside my house. On the tv there were multiple news announcements about Adams' deaths, Adams Inc., and stuff about One Direction. Then again, One Direction was always on tv.

I was lying on my couch, staring up at the ceiling, when there was a knock on my door. "It's open," I said, not even bothering to look over at who came in.

"Miss Ashlyn. You have to attend a meeting the board is holding at Adams Inc. today. I have been informed your parents' lawyers are there as well and the legal situation on your parents' company will be discussed," Jeffery said and I watched him walk over to me. He sat on an arm chair beside the couch and sighed. "I'm sorry about your family, but I wouldn't want to see your parents' company and hard work go down."

"I know. And I won't let that happen. What time is the meeting?" I asked. I had already thought about Adams Inc. I wasn't ever going to let them take it down or away from my family name. Even if I had to quit school and run it myself.

"The meeting is in about an hour."

"WHAT?!" I jumped up off the couch and ran to my phone across the room. I pushed the home button and the screen lit up. I frowned at the picture of me and my brother as my lock screen wallpaper.

"I'll come back in forty minutes. I suggest you get ready Miss Ashlyn," Jeffery said and I heard the quiet click of my door closing.

I sighed and put my phone down. I couldn't cry anymore but that didn't mean it didn't hurt. I walked out of my room and into my own personal bathroom. I had the whole third floor to myself and it consisted of my bedroom, a bathroom and a room that I used for anything I wanted. When I was little the room was full of toys, but now it was more dedicated to my art and piano.

I showered quickly and got dressed faster than I had on a normal basis. I walked over to the full length mirror on my closet room door and combed through my long, brown hair. I avoided looking at my blue eyes in the mirror. They reminded me of Alex's and it was painful thinking about my dead twin. I paid more attention to securing the belt around my waist over a red dress I chose to wear along with a pair of black strappy sandals. I wasn't much of a high heel girl, I loved sports too much.

With a sigh I grabbed my phone and left my room. It was time to just get over it all. I couldn't just stay in my house forever.
