Chapter Four: Inheritance

*Ashlyn's POV*

"It's all yours," the woman with a slight southern accent said and crossed her hands on the polished table top between us.

I was at Adams Inc company building in a room full of adults. It was hard to believe that I was now the boss of them all. I had barely turned eighteen!

I sat back stunned and looked down at the papers before me. My parents' will. They had left the entire company to Alex and I, but since Alex was dead it was all mine. The entire multi-million dollar company. I couldn't believe it.

"There is, however, one condition," she continued and I looked up at her confused.

"Which is?" I prompted when she just looked at me with her lips pursed.

She leaned forward and said,"You have to successfully manage a client."

I nodded. It didn't sound that difficult. My parents managed hundreds of other people, how hard could it be to manage one of my own? "Well who's my first client?"

"Well you don't have one yet. You have to have a meeting before you can become someone's manager. I actually believe there's an appointment for you today."

"TODAY?!" I yelled a bit too loudly and the other people at the table stared at me. Oops, forgot they were still here. "Who's my assistant?" I asked. My parents were always talking to their assistants. I had one too right?

"I'm your assistant Miss Adams," a woman much older than me with dyed black hair raised her hand towards me. "Would you like me to move the meeting?" She already had her iPad out and ready to make changes to my schedule.

I shook my head. If I was going to be the new owner of Adams Inc, I wanted to do this right. "No thank you Ms..."

"Stephanie. Please just call me Stephanie, Miss Adams," she said smiling at me.

"Thank you Stephanie." I turned back to the rest of the old people at the table. "Thank you for having this meeting today. I hope we have a great experience together. I know my parents would be grateful that you're all still here working for them. You may all carry on with your days now," I said. Instantly people got up and began to walk out, waving and smiling at me on their way out. I only hoped those smiles stayed.

----------------------------------------------

It took me about ten minutes to figure out how to work the elevator. I had to enter a code password in order to get up to the top floor, which was some kind of suite or something. It was gigantic and I wondered if it was the reason my parents weren't home often. I'd love to just stay there too, especially since I'd have to work in the same building anyways.

My parents' office was on the second to top floor and I couldn't help but look at it all in amazement. I never visited often, but the last time I came by it was entirely different. For one, all the furniture had been replaced and modernized. There was a desk and a blonde woman named Taylor that greeted you when you got out of the elevator. I guessed she was some kind of receptionist.

I went to the large office and ran my fingers along the white walls. Covering the walls were pictures of my family, newspaper headlines about Adams Inc, and even signed autographed frames of the famous people my parents managed.

Managing people? Could it be difficult? I hoped it wouldn't. I hoped like crazy it wouldn't be someone arrogant. I hated arrogant people and a lot of famous people turned out to be that way. I also hoped it wouldn't be some extremely old person. That would suck.

"Miss Adams, your appointment is here," Taylor appeared in my doorway, interrupting my thoughts.

"Thank you Taylor." I nodded and sat in the giant chair behind my new desk. I took in a breath and silently counted to ten.

I could do this.

I could do this.

I could do this.
