Chapter Eighteen: Almost But Not Quite

**Ashlyn's POV**

The boys all leaned toward me anxious for my explanations. I put my plate in the empty space beside me, folding my hands in it's previous place.

"Adams Incorporated is entirely in your guys' hands," I started. "When I inherited it, the woman was very specific in details. In order for me to keep my parents' company going, I have to successfully manage my first client. You guys just happen to be my first client." I gestured to them all and they nodded their heads.

"And if we aren't successfully managed..."

"Because we do stupid things and get in the eye of the media for the wrong reasons then..." Liam trailed off and there was a brief silence.

"Yeah. I lose the company," I finished for him.

"Shit," Harry groaned and put his head on the table, pushing his plate away in the process. Niall reached over and grabbed his pancakes.

"Well great. We've screwed it all up," Louis said and flopped backward into his chair. He crossed his arms over his chest and shot a look at Harry's bowed head.

"Well, we don't know that for certain. I'm sure that things will be fine. I am Ashlyn Adams. I think that that alone is enough of a reason for me to keep my company!" I was frustrated now and my cheeks were blazing. "I will fight long and hard for this company and I'm not going to see you guys go down as failures. I just won't."

Harry lifted his head and his green eyes stared in to mine. I was caught off guard and the shock traveled through me. He looked upset and I wanted to reach out and touch his face, to wipe away the worry lines that were beginning to appear.

I liked him. I did. There were no more credible excuses for denying it. I liked Harry Styles more than a friend, way more than a friend. More than I even wanted to admit. Maybe it was his green eyes that held my gaze every now and then, or maybe it was his brown curls. Perhaps it's because I get tingly just thinking about him, or even the actual tingles I experience when our hands brush. Harry was cheeky, very flirty, but that all made him the guy I fell for.

I swallowed. I was going to lay it all out on the table right? That included my feelings toward Harry. This was my time to let everything out.

"Harry, I..."

I AM TITANIUMMMM!

My phone vibrated violently on the top of the table, my ringtone effectively cutting me off. Stephanie's name flashed on the screen and I groaned.

"I have to take this," I said and stood up from the table. Harry's gaze was more than a little disappointed as I walked away. The other boys nodded and broke out into a loud conversation.

"Hello?" I answered my phone and dropped into a recliner in the living room. The boys laughter was still audible, I smiled. At least the boys seemed better.

"Miss Adams you've received more than a couple dozen phone calls for interviews and your lawyer along with a press team is here. There's paparazzi everywhere and our guests can't leave the building. How do you want me to handle things? Do you want your messages? Are you still there?!" Stephanie screamed into the phone after rambling on and on. It was miracle she was still conscious, all that talking with no pause for breathing made me dizzy already. "MISS ADAMS?! Hello!"

"First of all Stephanie, calm down okay? Take a breath," I took my own breath and I heard her copy me through the phone. "Alright good. Now, say that again? Slowly."

I heard the sound of someone screaming demands in the background. "There's almost every show and radio host wanting to meet with you. Paparazzi is everywhere and some girl this morning came bursting into the building demanding to talk to the one in charge."
