Chapter Twenty Five: Business & A Dirty Mind

**Ashlyn's POV**

It was all a blur. Stephanie came in my office announcing people who I didn't want to talk to about things I didn't care about. It was all the same lately. Company. One Direction. Harry Styles. Company. Relationship. Losing. Losing. Losing. Harry Styles.

I listened and nodded when appropriate. I smiled generously and shook hands. I welcomed them to my parents' company. I asked them if they wanted anything to eat or drink. I talked to them about their successful businesses. I laughed as they talked of my own successful business.

I faked being interested. I faked listening. Hours and hours on end.

I waited for Gary to make his presence known but was told instead that he had left a while back and wasn't coming in again today. It was fine with me.

"Miss Adams, Steve would like to talk to you now." Stephanie came back into the room after I took a short ten minute break from everyone. I lifted my head off my desk and nodded okay. Her lips pressed into a thin line but she nodded in return and left the room.

A man with blond hair and piercing black eyes, dressed in a pressed and ironed suit came into the room and closed the door behind him. His every move was brisk and quick. He gave off an authoritative presence which had me sitting straighter in my chair on impulse. This man was serious and scary.

"Ashlyn Adams I assume?" He turned towards me briefly and stuck out his hand. I stood up and grasped his firm hand with my smaller one. His grip was a harsh one.

"Yeah that's me," I forced myself to smile at him. We let go of hands and I sat back down. "So how can I help you, Steve?"

He walked away from my desk and began investigating the pictures on the walls. He kept his hands behind his back, his nose held higher than usual. "Do you understand who I am?" He asked without looking at me.

"Yeah," I said a bit slowly. "You're Steve from British Management. You're the ex-manager of One Direction. You want to take them back," I stated coldly. I crossed my arms against my chest and leaned back into my chair. This guy was pissing me off.

He chuckled as he moved to the next picture. "Ah see that's where you're mistaken darling," he turned towards me and smiled cruelly, his eyes glinting off silver in his dark black eyes. "I don't just plan on taking them back, which I will do by the way," he said matter-of-factly with a nod of his head, "but I also plan on telling you the truth."

I watched him sit in the chair across from me, a slow smile slowly appearing on his face. "Excuse me?" It was the only thing I could think of to say.

"The truth Miss Adams."

"Which is?"

He looked me dead in the eyes and my heart stopped beating. I wanted to look away from the black orbs in his head but I couldn't. I was scared, but I was caught in his gaze. His eyes never left mine as he said, "The truth about One Direction. The truth about Harry Styles. The reason as to why I'm going to take back One Direction and leave Harry in the dirt. The way I'm going to slip everything out from under you in a matter of weeks. The way your face is going to look once everything you know and love is ripped away from you. You will understand everything. You will know why Harry and you are completely incompatible. In a couple weeks Ashlyn, all of this," he gestured to the room around us, "will be no more. Why? You may ask." His eyes flashed and I made myself swallow my fear down. "Because you won't want it! Not after you know the truth about Harry. Styles." He spoke quickly, his voice rising louder and louder with every word. His anger getting more and more noticeable.

My mind was running on overdrive. I didn't understand. What was he talking about? What was he saying? What the hell was I missing right now? Harry what?

Steve stood up briskly and gave me one last cruel smile. "And while we're talking about truth and discovery. You might want to keep a watch on the boys tonight. Things might get...sticky," he said with a cruel laugh before turning away and walking towards the office door. He paused with his hand on the door knob and turned back towards me. "Oh and Ashlyn, good job in trying to hide that bruise of yours. Let me guess, Harry did it right?" I sat there with my mouth gaping, struggling to form a coherent thought. Before I could, he left the room.

All of the energy in my body seemed to leave as quickly as Steve had gone. I still didn't understand what he was talking about, and I really didn't want to. He was most likely all talk and no play, a man of words but not actions. In reality, what could he do to me and my company? And how did he know about the bruise? Was it that obvious? What did he mean about Harry?

Stephanie came back in and looked at me concerned. "Miss Ashlyn, are you alright?" She came over to me and put a hand on my forehead. "You look like you've just seen a ghost!"

I moved away from her hand and stood up. "I'm going home. I'll be fine," I said and grabbed my purse off the ground.

"Uhm, just one problem Miss Adams," Stephanie said beside me and I turned towards her. What was wrong now? She bit her lip. "You can't leave the building right now."

I practically reeled. "What?!"

Stephanie walked over to the window and threw the curtains over. She pointed down and I joined her. Below us, thirty two floors below us, was a huge mob of people and about twenty police cars. I groaned and pressed my forehead against the glass.

"What about the back?" I asked.

"Blocked. There's more people over there as well," she said quietly.

"Why are they here?"

Stephanie laughed quietly and shut the window again. "Apparently, one of the boys tweeted they were here."

Of course. Who would have guessed? "Which boy?" I pressed my fingers against my forehead. I had a headache coming on.

"Harry Styles himself," Stephanie answered.

"I'm going to kill him," I said under my breath and left the room. "After I sleep."

**Harry's POV**

"Alright boys, that's good for now," the man behind the glass window said to us and I took off my headphones. We had been singing for hours and I was worn out.

"Thank you. It was great working here," Liam, being the respectful leader as usual, said and shook hands with the man. "Really, it was a great experience."

"No problem. I'll see you guys again same time next week," he said and we all nodded before making our way out.

I walked a little behind the other boys. They were definitely hyper as they jumped on top of each other, yelling loudly through the hallway of the Adams Inc building. Louis noticed me and walked over to me.

"Hey cheer up Hazz," he said and pushed me with his shoulder. I didn't smile back and he dropped the hyper act. "What's wrong Harry?"

I shrugged not wanting to talk about it. Louis clicked at me and put his hands on his waist. "Harry, tell me now."

"No. I'm fine Lou," I said annoyed.

Louis sighed but let it go. He walked back towards the other boys and I followed. He knew I wasn't fine. In fact I was far from it.

"Boys! Boys! Over here!" Stephanie came over to us, her brown eyes meeting mine briefly. My eyes slid down from her eyes landing on her exposed breasts. I shook my head clearing it and forced myself to look back at her face. What the hell was wrong with me.

"Hey Stephanie, where's Ashlyn?" Zayn asked. Typical. Of course he'd ask about his precious Ashlyn.

I mentally shook myself. Since when did I become so damn bitter?

"She crashed out in the top suite," Stephanie said and pointed upwards. "She said for you guys to stay there as well. There's no way out of this building right now," she explained and we all nodded in understanding.

"Alright. Cool, thanks Stephanie," Louis said and hugged the older woman. A blush appeared on her cheeks. Interesting.

"Okay, well see you all tomorrow. I'm sure you must all be pretty tired by now," she giggled and her dyed black hair fell into her eyes. The urge to brush it back flitted through me. I ignored it.

I had to get away from her. I grabbed Niall by the arm and looked at the tray of food on the table across the room. "Let's go get something to eat, Niall," I said a little too enthusiastically and pulled him towards the table. The other boys looked at me strangely.

"Excellent idea!" Niall chuckled and grabbed the first muffin he saw. "Chocolate chip!" He held it out to me and I bit into it.

"Yumm!" I exaggerated. The muffin was too sweet, the chocolate overpowering.

The other boys walked over to us as Niall stuffed his face and hands full of sweets. "You alright Hazz?" Liam looked at me concerned.

I nodded and grabbed the tray, putting it into Niall's hands. "Great. Let's just go," I said and turned the boys towards the elevators. I glanced over my shoulder, my eyes finding Stephanie immediately. I forced myself to look away from her as she dropped a couple papers on the ground, afraid that I would no longer be able to control my hormones.

The elevator dinged open and we all stepped in. I stood towards the back of the elevator, my back resting against the metal rail, grateful for the distance between Stephanie and me. I had to get my mind off of her. I wanted Ashlyn. I wanted the girl with eyes so blue and hair dark brown. The girl who was only a couple months younger than me and still capable of running an entire company. I wanted her.
