I was sitting next to Jackson and eating supper. I was getting super annoyed; Jeffery kept looking at me and saying things to his friends. Jackson was pretty pissed at Jeffery, as I had told him what had happened earlier today. I cleared my throat to get Jackson's attention. He looked up. "Hm? What is it?" Jackson asked gently. "Jeffery won't stop staring at me." I whispered. Jackson glared at Jeffery. "Alright. I've had enough." He mumbled. Jackson looked at me, warning that he was gonna yell. I shot him a quick nod. "Jeffery!" Jackson yelled harshly.

The whole room went silent. I looked over to Jeffery and his friends. His friends' faces had paled and had a look of "oh snap," written on them. I almost felt bad for them. "If you don't stop what you are doing, YOU ARE OUT!" Jackson snarled. Jeffery looked at Jackson in shock. Jeffery then looked at me. I shot him a hard death glare. He visibly winced and looked away fast. Jackson gave Jeffery one last glare before looking at me with a soft expression. "Thank you." I mumbled. Jackson smiled. We shared a smile and continued to eat.

I was sitting underneath a tree, looking at the stars. I was thinking about my mom. I had to leave my house before my mom got home. It was getting dangerous. I lived in a small town and it was getting overcrowded with Seekers fast. I began to wonder if my mom was still out there. Was she even alive? A wave of sadness washed over me. Mom...I sighed sadly. I heard someone sit to the left of me, causing me to look over. I saw Jackson. "Ya alright?" He asked gently. "Just thinking of my mom." I answered, a hint of sadness hanging in my words. Jackson wrapped his arm around me in attempts of comforting me. "I want to go back..." I whispered, trailing off while lost in thought. "Go back where?" Jackson asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. "My house. To see if my mom is there." I answered, whispering softly, "And I believe there is still some supplies left in the house." Jackson shifted to get comfortable. "Tomorrow we can go." Jackson stated.

I looked over at him and cocked an eyebrow. "Wait, aren't we still on lock down?" I asked. Jackson sighed. "You're right. Let's go on Wednesday." He stated. I gave him a nod and leaned in to him. I sighed in content as a cold breeze brushes against us. "Winter's coming." I whispered softly. Jackson looked down at me and mumbled, "It has been getting colder lately..."

The next day went by slowly. Anxiety creeped on me as I paced back and forth in mine and Jackson's room that night. Jackson looked at me as I paced. "Babe, come sit down." He said, gently patting a spot next to him on the bed. I sighed and walked over to bed. I sat down next to Jackson, who wrapped his arm around me. "What's the matter?" He asked gently, concern slightly in his voice. "I'm worried about tomorrow. What if the house is filled with seekers? What if..." I rambled. "Hey, enough with the 'what ifs.' Everything is gonna be okay." Jackson gently ordered. I sighed. "Come on. Let's get some sleep." Jackson whispered, kissing my cheek. I sighed one last time and laid down with Jackson. I slowly fell asleep with the millions of thoughts running through my mind.

~The Next Day~

Jackson and I were loading a small car with some supplies. I put my bag in the backseat as Jackson walked out of HQ with the car key. He tossed them to me. I caught them with ease and got in the car, Jackson following. I drove to the gate where Zander and Drew opened the gates. I gave them a quick nod before driving to my house.

~

It was a quiet drive. Nothing really happened. Here and there, Jackson and I would spot some Seekers. They'd always try to catch the car, earning some small laughter between me and Jackson. After a few more minutes of driving, I saw a Seeker in the middle of the road. I swerved the car around it, but still managed to hit the body it was feeding on. Rotted blood splattered the windshield. "Gross..." Jackson muttered. I gagged before turning the wipers on to clean the windshield. "Well that was lovely." Jackson jokes, chuckling a bit. "Very." I laughed.

Anxiety made my blood run cold as we pulled into town. I sighed softly, trying to calm down. I drove slowly with caution. My eyes scanned for my road. Time seemed to slow down as I saw a sign that read Sunset Valley Road. My road. "Well, get your stuff ready," I said, "we are almost here." Jackson hummed. I pulled up to my house. With a slightly shaky sigh, I pulled into the driveway and turned the car off. "You ready?" Jackson asked gently. "Ye-ah..." I whispered, voice shaking a bit. We got out of the car. I saw some stray seekers, causing me to unsheathe my knife quickly. I killed them fast. I walked up to the door with Jackson close behind. I grabbed the doorknob and tried to turn it. Locked. I softly cursed under my breath.

I suddenly remembered that Mom always kept a spare key in the fake plant's pot. I walked over to the plant and dug down into the pot- which was just a bright blue bucket. I felt the cold metal key and grabbed it. I placed the key in the knob and opened the door. I was greeted with a gun to my face. Jackson gasped. I heard him unsheathe his gun and cock it. I was frozen with fear and shock. My eyes moved up to met the eyes of the person holding the gun. "Mom?"
