Chapter Sixteen

Author's Note: Pneumatic tubes are the tubes that you see at a bank drive through.

    "THE END OF THE APOCALYPSE!" Rose and John shouted. I gasped, "T-The end? How can we..?" "We can make more of the serum and it into darts." John explains. "And then, shoot all of the Seekers with them." Rose continued. Jackson and I nodded eagerly. "If we tame the Seekers before they breed, the serum will carry out through the offspring!" Rose exclaimed. "And since the serum is safe for human consumption, we can pour it into our water systems and rivers in the spring. So when they drink the water, the serum will get into them." John said.

    I grew excited. Jackson quickly pulled me into a kiss. "We are gonna make it!" He exclaims. I giggled and looked over at the Seeker. I walked to the cage and knelt down. The Seeker looked up at me and cocked its head. I then did the most stupidest thing; I placed my hand on the cage. The Seeker looked at my head and leaned towards it. It sniffed my hand. I felt its warm breath hit my hand. Soon, it leaned in more so that my hand was touching it. I started to think that the Seeker wanted me to pet it. I put my hand through the bars and gently pet the Seeker's head. It closed its eyes and made an odd noise-almost like it was purring. I let out a giggle, catching Jackson's attention, who knelt beside me.

    Made a new friend?" Jackson asked. I giggled again and nodded. Jackson smiled and reached in the cage to pet the Seeker. "Can we let it out?" I asked. "Well we were gonna let the Seeker go into a larger area in here so it can roam free, since it is tamed. So, I don't see why not." Rose explained. I smiled, unlocking the cage. The cage opened and the Seeker crawled out and looked at the four of us. I gave it a soft smile.

    Jackson looked at it in amazement. "I've never seen them this calm before." He mumbled, reaching out to pet the Seeker. "Right?! Soon, all the Seekers will be like this!" Rose jumped up and down, clapping her hands together. I began to laugh, "That would be the day." "When do you think you'll be done with the serum?" Jackson asked. "Hopefully by spring." John answered. "I hope we can have the serum sooner, but we need a lot of serum." Rose said. "What's in this serum?" I asked. "Herbs, corn syrup along with other syrups, and some water." Rose explained. I gave her a nod, "We can make supply runs if you run out of the ingredients. Just give us a list of them." John and Rose nodded.

    I was in my office filing some stuff. Someone knocked on the door, causing me to look up. "Yes? Come in!" I called out. The door opened and in came Steve and his girlfriend, Dr. Rebecca. "Have a seat, I'll be with you in a minute." I spoke. I put up the rest of the files and sat straight. "How may I help you today?" I ask them. "Tomorrow is me and Becca's two year anniversary." Steve explained. I smiled, "Aww! Happy early anniversary guys!" "So, we were wondering: can we have tomorrow off?" Rebecca asked. "Well, that is fine by me, but Jackson's decision is final. So, I'm gonna have you fill out a request form." I explained to them. They nodded. I got out the two forms and handed them to Steve and Rebecca.They both filled them out and handed me the forms.

    I got out a pen and signed each form. I stapled them and walked to the pneumatic tubes. I got out the cylinder thingy and placed the forms in. I put the cylinder in the tubes and pressed a button labeled Jackson, sending the papers up to him. I sat down. "While Jackson looks at the forms, do you have anything to tell me?" I asked. "Well, Jeffery's been going to the Infirmary claiming he's sick, but when we run tests on him, he is completely fine." Rebecca said, "I think he's trying to get out of assignments." I sighed and shook my head. "I got on to him about it. I told him if He doesn't do his assignments, Jackson would deal with him." I explained. Rebecca nodded.

    A few moments go by and I hear the cylinder return. Rebecca started to bounce her leg in anticipation to see if Jackson approved. I got up and walked to the tube. I got the cylinder out and opened it, getting the forms out. I glanced over them and saw Jackson signed them, meaning they were approved. "Alright! You guys are approved!" I smiled. "YES!" Steve exclaimed, kissing Rebecca. I giggled a bit, "Have fun guys!" They smiled before leaving. I sat down and detached the forms to file them in to Steve's and Rebecca's records.

    I sigh as the thought of Jeffery ran through my mind. I Pulled out my mic to page Jackson. "Jackson, please come to my office." I said softly into the mic. A few minutes later, he walks into my office. Jackson gave a gentle smile as he sat down in front of my desk. I sighed, "Something has to be done about Jeffery."
