Diana screamed for several seconds, but the only answer she got was the echo of her own voice. Looking down at Kate was hard, the goddess pressed her palm against the wound in an attempt to stop the bleeding. She knew it was pointless. This was no ordinary injury and if it could be treated like one, Zatara's defense mechanism could be considered a failure. The blood pouring out of Batwoman's body was black a boiling hot, however since it didn't burn the mortal, Diana came to a horrifying realization. This whole thing was calculated. It was a one huge trap, forcing any intruder to run directly towards the mansion while being hunted by monsters. But there was a new level of cruelty in Shadowcrest protections. Wonder Woman visited this place plenty of times and usually the purpose of the traps was to catch the unwanted guests. Right now, Princess of Themyscira was forced to watch her partner bleed out and she couldn't even touch the wound without being exposed to the magic. Kate coughed and the sticky black goo covered her lips. Diana's mind was racing fast, going over her options. When she was about to pick up the redhead into her arms, the fog appeared on the edge of the forest. The Amazon could feel the monster coming closer and closer.

"hgounE!" Strong voice was carried by the wind through the whole area. Before Diana could react, all of Kate's blood turned red again and quickly disappeared back into her body. Even the wound was nowhere to be found.
"Kate?" Wonder Woman didn't feel like a hero now. She just stood there, staring at her mortal companion.

"I-I am alright..." The redhead jumped up to her feet. "Whatever you did worked. I-uh-thank you, Diana."

"I..." She looked into the wide green eyes. "I didn't do anything, Kate..." Her voice was unusually quiet.

"Well...you got me to safety?" Batwoman offered with smile, but it wasn't successful.

"That wouldn't be needed if I didn't bring you with me."

This was like a cold shower for the Bat. It was obvious that she wasn't exactly helpful and Diana was clearly regretting her decision. Something between them shifted and Kate was counting with the Themyscira trip less and less. Everything was silent for a moment and then the door to the mansion opened.

"The Princess of Themyscira and a Batwoman. What an honor." It was the same voice that stopped all this madness. Zatanna Zatara was slowly walking towards the couple.

"Is this all necessary?" Diana waved her arms around.

"Absolutely." The magician nodded. "I apologize for not stopping it earlier, but you were never in any real danger." She smiled at the redhead.

"Warning would be appreciated next time." Kate shrugged.

"That'd be a little counterproductive, don't you think?" Zatanna retorted.

"We could use your help, Zatara." Wonder Woman changed the topic. Sooner they get out of there, sooner she can stop thinking about what she put Kate through today.

"I am a little bit busy right now." The magician seemed distracted. Diana narrowed her eyes, waiting for an explanation. She wasn't used to being refused. "I-uh-I think I could make time?" Zatanna didn't want to make the goddess angry and rethinking her answer was one of her options to save herself.

"It won't take long, we just need to...store some magic items here for a moment." Batwoman explained.

"You could have said so right away." Zatara pouted.

"You could have put the warning there." Kate deadpanned.

"I will get the items from the jet." Small smile settled on Diana's lip before she flew off.
