Brandy's PoV:

Ever have those moments where time just stops? Or it seems like everything, including yourself, moves in slow motion? The second I heard that little girl scream, everything stopped. My heart stopped beating, and the air refused to go through my lungs anymore. My stomach lurched hearing Anna laugh, no cackle. Hearing Anna cackle.

I unbury my face from Tray's shirt in time to see Daniel carrying the little girl up the embankment towards us and an evil smile plastered onto his face. And Anna, who I guess had shifted back to human, skipping along beside him, carrying the dart gun. I wish she would wipe that smart-ass grin off her face, hell I'd smack It off. "Alright..." he pauses, looking back and forth between Tray and me, "we have the girl. We need to leave before whoever was supposed to pick her up from the party gets here and sees us with their kid." His voice shattered my trance, why is he looking at me like that? "Awe, Brandy are you crying over a human?" I quickly put my fingers to my eyes and they come away wet with tears. I'm crying, since when? "Shut the hell up Daniel, seriously let's just go." A growl escapes my lips as I speak, the growl gets louder as he snickers. "This is why dad didn't pick you to be alpha Brandy, can't keep your damn mouth shut." I roll my eyes hearing Anna snicker. I can feel Jem, my wolf, wanting out but she can't, it would just worsen the situation. "Leave her alone Daniel, as you said, we have to go." I flinch a little hearing Tray, it doesn't even sound like him...his voice is never that cold and harsh..ever.

Tray's PoV:

He seriously needs to be knocked down a peg, even better, on his ass. I gently pull Brandy with me as we walk, not wanting her to have to endure anymore teasing from her egotistical brother and his prat of a mate. "This isn't right Tray...she needs to go home." Her voice shakes. Even though I can't see it, tears slip down her face, she's too beautiful to cry, and yet here she is, my beautiful mate, crying.

Max: Tray...mate is sad, fix it diphthong!

Tray: You aren't helping Max! And stop calling me diphthong Twinkle toes!

Max: IT WAS ONCE!

I'm pulled from my conversation with my unruly wolf when the car doors swing open. I look up expecting Daniel, but Brandy stands in front of them. "I'm sitting in the back with her and no one is telling me otherwise." She looks at Daniel, then before giving either of us time to respond she climbs into the back of the van. "Fine, whatever." Daniel brushes passed me, making me stumble forward a little. and not too gently puts the girl on the floor of the van. "You know, just because she isn't one of us doesn't mean you get to treat her like a worthless object Daniel!" Brandy had climbed from the van and was now standing face to face with her brother, she was protecting the little girl. "For gods sakes, Brandy do you ever just shut the hell up?!" "No Daniel! No! This is wrong! I don't care if the council is paying you copious amounts of money and fueling that power hungry act you have going on, this is a HUMAN life, Daniel! She did nothing-" Something cuts her off, I look up hearing a crack, he smacked her across the face. He just SMACKED MY MATE. I start walking forward but Anna pulls me back. "If you want her alive, I'd stay back here and shut up lover boy". I growl ripping my arm from her grasp. "You EVER lay a hand on me or my child ever again, it will be the last time you have hands." And with that, she punches him across the face, sending him falling to the ground. Anna gasps, "Did you just threaten the alpha?!" She scurries over and kneels beside Daniel. "No, I didn't, I made a promise." Brandy gently lifts the little girl off the floor and into the van, I can hear Jem, Brandy's wolf, growling from where I stand.

As Anna continues to be baby Daniel I climb into the back of the van, shutting the doors behind me. I smile slightly seeing the sight before me. Brandy has the girl in her lap, and she's whispering things to her. I quietly sit down beside the two. "It's gonna be okay, I promise. I will get you out of here." She looks up at me, her beautiful brown eyes, silently begging me to do something, anything. "Alright," She smiles looking back down to the little girl and continues to whisper to her. I suck in a breath as the van starts moving, slowly driving into in an imaginary battle, but I was ready, and so was she. We are going to save this little human. There's no doubt about it.
