Prologue
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
“Xavier Maxwell! Urgent message!”
The human lord cocked his brow and looked over at his secretary who had rudely interrupted his meeting with the Elven Lord, Charles Lambrick. Turning away from the large window in his private study, he looked over at the young servant girl and waited for her to speak. In fact, part of him wondered why he even bothered to wait. His staff in his manor knew very well what can occur if they ever interrupted a private meeting.
Being a the human lord, it wasn't easy to keep an intimidating persona especially since the Syndicate he was apart of had no other humans. All were non-human, or the better term, X-Humans. It was quite a derogatory term for some he actually considered friends. Yet, the humans of this world decided it was best to name them as such.
In their eyes, there was no better term suited for monsters. Who exactly was the monster here?
After waiting for what seemed like forever, he finally cleared his throat and asked the girl - startling her where she stood. “What is so important that you brought it upon yourself to interrupt my meeting?” He asked, feeling a bit more irritated that he even had to ask what was so urgent!
Swallowing her fear, the young girl who probably was no more than twenty-two, bowed in respect and informed both lords in the private study. “My Lord, a Code 5 has been alerted from Minato City, Tokyo. We believe Kiyoshi Takemaru - Lord Katsu Hideyoshi’s right hand - called, the code in.”
Both the lords of the room finally turned their full attention to the woman. “When did you receive the news?” Charles demanded while pulling out his pocket watch. Three hours past midnight, which meant it was late evening probably in Tokyo.
“We received the news just minutes ago, my Lords.” She bowed once more.
“Alert the other lords, and let each of them know to meet here at once.” Xavier ordered firmly while brushing the servant off and walking back to the large window to watch the snow fall quietly.
As silence followed suit the second the servant girl left, Charles couldn't quite help but feel perplexed at the idea of having such dangerous guest in one place. Clearing his throat, he finally voice his opinion on such. “Are you ill, dear friend? I fear you might have a fever to cause such insane decisions. All the Lords of the Lotus Syndicate here, well that is ludicrous.” He chuckled lightly, placing his pocket watch back into his suit and walking over to stand beside Xavier.
The snow truly was a sight to see here in Michigan, and a reason why Charles brought it upon himself to come and visit. Out of all the other lords, Xavier was someone he actually considered a true friend. A loner in his life, even the other elves dare not bother with him, Charles always found solace in being alone unless it was with Xavier.
The only man to see beyond the ‘X’. Humans and X-Humans never truly associated with one another. Of course, they can co-exist on Earth, but to be more than just different species was unheard of. Everyone stayed with their own kind, and it was forbidden to ever mix.
