Bake sale is Al-Waha's a whale of a time in which peers and tutors alike enjoy the event to its fullest. To say that this event was fabulous would be an understatement. But where are my manners? Bake Sale is an annual fiesta held in Al-Waha in which the students have quality time with their friends while enjoying the plethora of hot and cold, delicious and savoury, chilly and sweet, branded and homemade, scrumptious and mouth-watering food with the chefs from grades 9-12 at their service.
Preparations for this event had started long before with the seniors from grades 9-12 being sorted into groups, each taking responsibility for preparing unique and assorted cuisines or gaming. And alas, the long-awaited day arrived, hastily for the seniors and sluggishly for the juniors.
Scheduled on 31st January and 1st February, the anxious and reverberant students, with heavy pockets and energy auras surrounding them, and the teachers, who were doing their best to contain the defiant students, let out a sigh of relief as the bell, indicating the start of the jamboree, shrieked at its highest pitch. The savage, hungry and expectant horde of students spilled from the three buildings of Al-Waha to see a picturesque display of colours that would've made Picasso jealous.
A myriad of foods occupied the Al-Waha grounds, entailing cheesy pizzas, available in many flavours; the overflowing cauldrons of Biryani that ran out in a matter of seconds; steaming Barbeque, served right off the embers; Al-Baik, aka the pride of Saudi food; gooey globs of pasta for the touch of Italian cuisine; fresh lemonades, topped with crushed ice; Oreo milkshakes, garnished with foam; Orange juice, that was made from fresh oranges being peeled on spot; marvellous cakes, from notable brands; dark brownies that satisfied the sweet tooth; warm doughnuts, with spilling fillings and the hot waffles, topped with chocolate and Maple syrup... ah, the list is never-ending. The gaming stalls were a wonder themselves with the swift and adrenaline-pumping games, from shooting games to football games, displayed on vivid, 1080p screens so that the students could prove their skills and disclose some pro tactics in front of their friends; not to forget the movie theatre, with movies from every genre, that attracted quite some attention.
The herd of ravenous customers swiftly exchanged their money for the tokens and headed for the first thing present in their vicinity: the food stalls. The atmosphere was a hustle and bustle with stall keepers promoting their stalls at the top of their voices and tokens and goods being exchanged in a hurry. After buying the edible goodies the students settled on the gaming arenas, where they could test their skills and show off in front of their friends. Challenges and dares were passed around with gasps, a comment of appreciation or a pat on the back. There was a huge variety of games offered, the best and the frequent played one being Fifa 18, along with others like Call of Duty, Gears of War, Rocket League and many more. Midway into the Bake Sale, a goalpost was hauled over to a point, the people, who were coming in the way, ushered to the side, and the ball was set; it was penalty shots time with scorers and goalkeepers, alike, giving their best. The astonishing amount of refreshing drinks, like lemonade, Oreo shakes and even fresh orange juice, kept the Bake Sale spirit burning till the end and overcame tiredness.
Like all the previous Bake Sales, there is one unique thing each year that rocks the school, and sure enough, this year too, a new sport had attracted humongous attention. No sooner had the head of the activity exclaimed NERF WAR! the other gaming kiosk owners realized they were screwed. A long queue developed outside their doors awaiting the nerf war, which featured the usage of nerf guns to take down targets and dominated the title of the best game of the Bake Sale 2017-2018.
Soon enough all the stall owners were rolling in profits as the enthusiastic students emptied their pockets in exchange for what they offered. With the bake sale abating to an end, the number of content customers increased, and the value of unsold food stuff plummeted down; the ones who had awaited this chance went about enjoying the benefits of patience.
Finally, the Bake Sale drew to an end with heavy sighs and grunts, and the students were herded inside the classes with quite some difficulty. Luckily, another day of Bake Sale awaited the children, who had learnt lessons from that day and devised plans for the other. On the other hand, the seniors bragged about their handsome profits, which would be utilized to give them a fine day out in Istaraha, away from the city and its clamours and a chunk of the profit was separated for charity as a word of thanks to God for such a good day.
All in all, both the days were a mixture of joy, excitement, frenzy, furore and much more. A word of thanks to the management on behalf of the whole school, who cooperated and planned so much to give us such a superb day. All the best for the next Bake Sale!
