Chapter Fifteen

Once Jane Torres had officially left, Vincent bit his lips as if he was trying to suppress his anger towards his parents. He also continued to look at Mark and Jennifer with an expressionless look on his face as well.

"Unbelievable," Vincent hissed as he turned his back away from his parents to look at the ceiling. "Just...unbelievable."

"Look," Mark Gray started to say. "We understand that you and Jane are no longer dating but the least you could do is be civil with the girl; she simply just came over to say hello to us."

"Why do you this to me?" Vincent mouthed sarcastically,  looking up at the ceiling as if God wanted him to be miserable or something.

For a moment, there was pure silence as the four of us stood in the living room. Vincent's parents were waiting a response from their son while he leaned against the wall, forehead creased as if he was conjuring up the right words to say to them.  Obviously, I got the sense that Vincent's breakup with Jane Torres must have been bad-- really bad.

"So, um..." I cleared my throat just as the three of them turned their head in my direction, as if they had completely forgotten I was even there in the first place. I looked at Mark and Jennifer. "... you guys know Jane Torres?"

Jennifer smiled sweetly. "A little bit," she replied. "Vincent only introduced Jane to us one time and that was it. However, she's very sweet girl and whenever she's in Toronto she makes an effort to see the parents of her boyfriend--

Vincent snorted. "We're not dating anymore," he muttered.

"Okay, I'm sick and tired of this, Vincent Alexander Gray!" Mark nearly roared as Vincent slowly turned around, pressing his back against the wall with his hands in his pockets. "For two years, you've been changing. The only reason why we let you go to New York City with your band is so that you can have a chance at a music career. Did we approve of it? No. But we let you do it anyway and now, now that you're famous you think you have the right to show attitude to your parents? Your ex-girlfriend just paid a a visit to us, something you never seemed to do when you're on tour; it's not something to get upset about, alright? Get your act together, Vincent."

For most people, Vincent would have looked unfazed by his father's words; after all, he was just leaning against the wall with a vacant stare, making it seem as though he was uninterested. However, as Mark was speaking, i could have sworn I saw a flicker of hurt in Vincent's eyes. When I blinked, the hurt in eyes were gone.

"I'm not upset about Jane coming over, dad," Vincent stated in a calmer voice.

"Then what are you upset about?" Mark demanded.

Vincent chuckled. "A lot of things," he replied. "One of them includes how my parents actually believes that my ex-girlfriend is...sweet ; that they are not able to see what a fake and manipulative person she truly is. That's what I'm upset about right now."

"Oh, Vincent," Jennifer started. "Jane is--"

"Look," Vincent raised his hands up in defence. "You guys even admitted that you don't know Jane very well and you know what, you couldn't have been more right about that. Now, I'm not going to share with you the details of my relationship problems and why  I think she's fake because that's none of your business; however, I have told you two before that Jane a is conniving bitch who shouldn't be the trusted-- the least you could do as parents is take my word for it. You can invite her to the house all you want, I could care less, but do me a favour and do not talk to her about my childhood here in Toronto because you might end up saying something that might be worth publishing on People magazine. Alright? Okay. Now, Carson and I are going to resume our study date."
