Chapter Twelve

Monday, March 19th.

The following day, I woke up to loud squeal that sounded like a dying cat. At first, I thought I was still dreaming but after I heard Abbie shouting my name repeatedly, I immediately got up thinking that there was sombody in the apartment pointing a gun to her head. As much as I detest my little sister sometimes, I was still hot-wired to be protective of her. However, when I come running down the tight hallways, Abbie is already coming at me with full speed. "Carson!" She shouted with a smile.

I stopped running and panted. "What's wrong?" I asked. "Why were you screaming?"

The grin plastered onto her face began to widened. "Jeremy Link is standing at our doorway," she tried to say in a low and calm voice.  "I am seriously about to die right now. First, Vincent Gray turns up at our apartment yesterday out of the blue with his parents and now, now Jeremy Link is here." Unable to control her inner fan-girl, Abbie let out yet another squeal that could easily be mistaken as a sound coming from a tortured rat. "And oh, he's here for you."

Rolling my eyes in annoyance, I pushed my sister to the side as I went around the corner of the hallway and walked towards the front door where I indeed could see Jeremy standing there wtih his large hood covering his face. Once he heard my footsteps coming towards him, he looked up and his baby blue eyes immediately met mine. He half-smiled.

"Morning,"Jeremy said as if it was completely normal to show up at a person's house out of the blue without notifying the person first.

I laughed as I raked my hand through my messy hair. "What are you doing here?" I asked, my voice still sounding a little bit tired.

Jeremy made a tsk, tisk voice as he looked down onto his watch. "Anna Carson Lovette," he replied in a serious tone. "You have less than twenty minutes before school starts and you're not even dressed."

My face dropped. "What time is it?" I asked slowly.

          "7:50--"

I turned around and shouted, "Mom! We overslept! Drop Abigail to school by 8:40, alright? I have to go now!" Just as i was about to head down the hallway and back into my room to change, I turned to face Jeremy with a look of confusion on my face. "What the hell are you even doing here anyways though?"

Jeremy smiled. "I did tell you that I'd be coming back to school this week," he responded. "Besides, Vincent and the others are waiting outside in his car. They just told me to come get you so we could give you a lift."

For once, I was truly grateful for the fact that Vincent owned many cars because right at the moment, I was pretty sure my bus already left me. It would take another half-an-hour just for the next bus to come along so getting a lift would be practically be saving my life right now. I couldn't exactly afford to be late, even once, given the fact that I've maintained a perfect attendance through out my high school years. I wasn't about to give up on that streak.

"Well,"  I said to Jeremy with a shrug. "You can come in for a bit and have a cookie or something. But for now, have to get dressed." Without waiting for his response, I dashed down the tight corridors and into my bedroom where I literally threw apart my room just to look for something to wear.

Once i grabbed my clothes, I slammed my bedroom door shut and quickly changed into them. I ended up wearing grey sweat pants, a loose white t-shirt underneath a large red sweater that said 'Canada' on it. After changing, I grabbed my books from my desk and stuffed into my backpack. Making sure I didn't eave anything like my phone and outdated MP3 player, I ran out of bedroom and fought Abbie for the washroom.
