I was sleeping soundly like a baby when my phone started ringing aggressively. My body was so exhausted that I didn't even feel like wriggling to my left and turning the damn thing off. So I just lied there lifelessly and waited for the person to stop calling me. But when was luck ever on my side....it just kept going and going until I finally had enough. I answered the call without checking the caller-ID.
"what do you want?" It came out throaty and I wondered if it was just my morning voice or the fact that I cried myself to bed last night.
"Somin? Hello Somin?" the feminine voice repeated.
I sat up straight and pulled the phone away from my ear, checking the display.
"Work" it read and I sobered up.
What the hell did I do now that they had to call me on my day off?
I cleared my throat and spoke "Good morning, sorry, I didn't look at the ID before answering the call"
"Oh no it's okay, actually I should be the one apologizing for calling on your day off" the voice I identified as my boss replied.
"It's okay but why did you call?"
"well your 'husband' just came by and wanted to know where you were and when I told him you had a day off....he was like "oh yeah I knew that, just forgot, but she'll be here tomorrow right?" and that's where it got suspicious for me, like shouldn't you be with him or wouldn't he know when you work and not? Uhh...I don't want to meddle in your business but is everything alright Somin?" her voice changed at the end of the sentence and took on a sympathy tone.
I weighed my answers and came up with a simple lie- "Silly me, yes of course! Everything is fine. I'm just staying at a friends house because she's not feeling well and my phone died last night so I couldn't contact him. Sorry for the trouble" I nervously chuckled and hoped that she bought my lies.
"stop apologizing Somin" she laughed "thank God everything is good, you got me a little worried there, just know that I'm always here in case you have problems, okay?"
"sor- I mean okay" God I'm so awkward.
"Alright that's all, have a great day Somin and by the way the kids are already missing you" she stated and at that my heart grinned a big smile.
"aww tell them I'll be back tomorrow" I almost swooned.
"will do! Now enjoy the day, goodbye"
"Alright bye" I sighed and fell back down on the bed.
