After our excursion in the market I was too pooped to do much else. We had dinner at the hotel's restaurant then retired to our suite for the evening. After a soothing soak with my men, we curled up in bed together and fell asleep.
Snow surrounded me on all sides for miles and miles like an arctic desert. There were no trees, plants, or animals as far I could see. Even though the sky above was a mix of grey and white clouds, it was bright and warm.
I was enthralled at the beauty before me. I've never seen snow before. I marveled at the powdery substance as it slipped through my fingers when I scooped it into my hand. A smile found itself on my lips.
As I took a step forward, a strong wind picked up. Snow whirled around me, stinging and blinding me. I put my hands up to shield my eyes. It picked up speed and intensity howling in my ears and pushing me back. I braced myself, waiting. My heart was thundering so loud I was sure it could be heard across the vast snowy plain.
Just as I was on the verge of panic, it all stopped. Shaking, I put my arms down and looked around. My eyes widened as gold orb floated toward me. My feet were rooted to the spot even though there weren't any chains or weights holding me down.
"It's okay, Daniel," my wolf said quietly. He seemed calm and serene in the back of my mind as the orb drew closer and closer.
A sense of calm came over me. My wolf said it was okay and up until now, he hasn't steered me wrong. My eyes widened in curiosity as the orb hovered inches from my eyes and hummed a soft tune. At first, I only saw my blue eyes reflected back at me. Then I heard an infant giggle. She was beautiful with blue-green eyes with copper around her pupils. Her dark hair hung in ringlets around her face. She was reaching her chubby hands out to someone.
The orb turned slowly to reveal a baby boy a little older than her. He had sea-blue eyes with violet purple around his pupil. I frowned at his oddly colored hair. It was white like the snow around me with a black streak from the top of his head to his forehead. I reached up to touch the orb and it zipped away out of reach.
How odd. What did this mean? Before my thoughts could get any further, thunder sounded over head. The sky before me turned black and was lit with fire. The snow vanished, replaced by bodies of different supernaturals. My breathing quickened as I looked around me with wide eyes.
Almost every supernatural being I'd read of from the six realms were engaged in armed combat. Some were fighting in their enhanced forms like the werewolves. Some were full on animal mode. The air was permeated with magic while weapons of all kinds clanged, boomed, sliced, and diced. I fought down the bile as I ran through the field with one purpose in mind.
To find my men.
I saw them fighting at the top of a hill. Sabian was in his wolf-man form, biting, slashing, clawing, and growling. Zander was using an odachi, his claws, and fangs. I ran up the hill screaming their names but it was like they couldn't hear me. The harder I ran the further away they seemed. I reached my hand out to them, my heart racing with with fear. Tears streamed out the corners of my eyes as the hill became soaked in blood. I had to get to them. I had to but I couldn't.
A dark shadow appeared behind them. Before I could warn them, they were torn in half. A scream left my lips as I sank to my knees.
I bolted upright in the bed, gasping for air. My heart was going a mile a minute and I was soaked through. I gasped for air as tears streamed down my cheeks. it was only a dream. But damn if it didn't feel real. I flung the covers off and stumbled to the bathroom. the water from the sink was freezing against my burning skin and the tears didn't stop. I bit down on my fist and squeezed my eyes shut.
I was so scared. How could such a beautiful dream go horribly wrong? Why were we in the middle of a fight? What could have happened to spark such an ungodly war spanning six realms?
I stripped out of my sticky clothes and got in the shower. I let the warm water bead down on my skin and scrubbed myself as if trying to scrub away the fear I felt. I was done, I dried off then went into the room and quietly pulled one of Sabian's shirts and a pair of Zander's sweats out of their bags. I need to feel them around me and didn't want to wake them. then I slowly made my way out of the bedroom and into the kitchenette.
My whole life flashed before me as I switched on the light and was met with Zander's teals. I clutched my chest and crashed into the wall. What the hell was he doing in the dark!?
He smiled in amusement. "You okay?"
"No!" I nearly yelled. "You're standing here in the dark like some kind of...of..."
"Vampire?" he smirked.
I rolled my eyes. Stupid me. Vampires didn't need much sleep nor did they need light to see in the dark. I sighed and sat down to the counter with my head in my hands.
"Nightmare?" he asked handing me a water.
My head whipped up. "How did you know?"
He shrugged. I opened the water and chugged half of it. I didn't realize how thirsty I was.
"Did...did you see my dream?" My lip trembled and my shoulders slumped as he nodded. "What does it mean?"
He sat next to me and pulled me into a hug. I felt the tears building all over again.
"I can't say that it was just a dream."
I looked up at him. "Then was it a-a vision?"
His hand carded through my hair and I leaned into his touch. "It's possible."
"Both parts?"
He nodded.
"What do I do?"
His eyes met mine. "There's nothing you can do. Many things are out of our control," he said honestly. "All we can do is follow the clues and try to alter events as they come."
"Am I the only one who has had this vision?"
He chuckled slightly and kissed the top of my head. "Probably not. There are many psychics, seers, shamans, prophets, oracles, all-seeing beings among supernatural species."
I sighed. Why were things so complicated? Did humans go through so much?
"Yes and no."
I face palmed. Me not blocking my thoughts again. Changing the subject, I smiled. "Whose children do you think those were?"
A smiled lifted the corners of his mouth. "One of them looked like it could be ours."
I blushed as I felt his eyes rest on my flat belly. "You want to have a child? With me?"
"I would love to. Sabian nor I are birthers so we kind of thought it would never happen. And of course with you. You're our mate. I wouldn't want a child with anyone else."
My bottom lip found its way between my teeth as I tried to suppress a smile. I looked up as his hand landed on my thigh.
"Is that something you would want?" His eyes looked worried. Like maybe children wasn't something I'd want.
I nodded emphatically. "I would like that very much." My blush deepened at his chuckle. "But not right now," I quickly added pointing at him.
He nodded and stood. "I know. We have other things to do first. For now, a certain cutie pie needs to go back to sleep," he said arching a brow.
I frowned. Go back to sleep? After that nightmare? Heck no. "But I'm not sleepy."
His teals met mine and I gasped. His eyes flashed a silver and seemed to pulse. "Sleep."
And I was out.
