Chapter 7

Saturday 6:00 p.m.

Shelby

I'm already dressed and ready. I don't know what to do with myself. I have to leave in half and hour to meet with Parker. I can't wait. I've been pacing for so long I've lost count of the minutes. I get a text just as I decide to sit down and watch part of a movie.

Parker: Which tie should I wear? I have all the colors.

Shelby: I'm wearing a light-blue dress so if you have anything to match that....

Parker: On it!

I smile. I have less than 10 minutes before I have to leave. I walk out to the backyard and see my parents sitting at the patio table eating some lasagna.

"Hey honey! You wanna join us?", Dad asks.

"No honey remember she has a date tonight!", Mom says.

"What? I...I..but she's so young!", Dad says speechless.

"I'm sixteen Dad! Isn't that when we decided I could start dating?", I ask, laughing along with my mom.

"Just get out of here and have fun ok?", Mom says.

"I will. I love you both! Bye!", I say walking back towards the house.

"Bye.", they say at the same time.

I walk back into the house, out the front door and down to my car. I get in and put the key in. I drive the long drive all the way to Dakota's and park the car in an open space. I'm early, so I wait in my car for a few minutes, looking for Parker's car. I see him pull up next to me and I get out to meet him. He's wearing a fancy suit and a tie that matches my dress perfectly.

"Hello!", I say, walking up to him.

"Hello!", he replies.

"I see you found the perfect tie.", I say, smiling.

"When I said I had all the colors, I meant it.", he replies.

"Shall we go in good sir?", I ask, making him laugh.

"Why we shall good maiden.", he replies, and grabs my hand. We walk across the parking lot to the front door, being greeted by a lady in a black and white dress. She has a pin on her shirt that says 'Destiny'.

"Hey I know you! We're in Art Class together!", I exclaim. She doesn't reply. She just nods her head and indicates for us to follow her. Once she leads us to our table and we sit down, she scampers away, obviously shy. Parker has the same thought.

"She seemed shy.", he says.

"Yeah. She doesn't talk much in class either now that I think about it.", I reply.

"Hm. Well on to a different subject. Thank you for inviting me.", Parker says.

"You're welcome. We're only a few minutes into this and I'm having a great time.", I reply.

"Good, me too. Oh, you wanna know what Liam said when I told them we were going on a date?", he asks.

"What?", I ask in return.

"I knew it! I knew it I knew it I knew it!", he says laughing.

"Oh my goodness!", I say laughing along with him.

"Yup. After that, I told them I had to go and asked for a ride to my place. When Liam went to get his keys, Zach came up behind me and said that we had to set Liam up with someone, now that him and are both dating people.", he says.

"Parker, if you're dating someone, why did you agree to go on this date with me?", I ask, teasing.

"I...I.. you've caught me red-handed.", he says, putting his hands up in mock surrender, and smiling. Our waiter walks up just then and hands us menus.

"Hi welcome to Dakota's. My name is Greg and I'll be your waiter tonight. Can I start you with something to drink?", he asks.

"Just a water please.", I respond.

"Same here", Parker says.

"Ok I'll be right out with those.", Greg says. He walks away and leaves me and Parker.

"I didn't tell Jess that we were going out tonight. I wanna surprise her on Monday somehow and make her freak out.", I say breaking the silence.

"How about you get her to her locker and then I'll walk up to you and kiss you? She'll definitely freak out about that!", he replies.

"I love that idea so much!", I say, laughing and smiling.

"The pranking Jess part or the kissing me part?", Parker asks, smiling.

" Why can't it be both?", I ask.

Dinner continues like that, us making each other laugh and smile, and laugh some more, and smile quite a bit more. Once we're finished and ready to leave, we get up and Parker grabs my hand. We walk outside and to our cars.

"I don't want tonight to end.", I say.

"Neither do I. But hey, at least we can text and call. And I'll see you on Monday!", Parker says.

"Yeah. See you.", I say. Instead of replying, he kisses me, filling me up with happiness.

I yawn and look at my clock. Wow, it's already noon. I get up and walk to the kitchen.

"Good afternoon Parker.", I hear my mom say.

"Oh hi. I didn't know you were back.", I say.

"We got back this morning. We were quite surprised to hear about your date last night.", my dad says.

"Ellie!", I yell.

"Don't get mad at me! I told them so you didn't have to.", Ellie says defensively.

"Right. You did this for me. Not you, me.", I say sarcastically.

"What can I say? I'm feeling generous.", Ellie says.

"Both of you, stop. Parker, we're happy for you!", Dad says.

"What? Why?", I ask.

"Yeah why?", Ellie asks.

"Well, you were so upset when Nora broke up with you. We think it's good for you to meet new people. Soooo, what's her name?", Mom says.

I scoff and say, "I'm going back to my room. Call me if you need me." I walk away and as I reach my room, I hear Ellie say, "So her name is Shelby. She's short with dark brown hair and a high-pitched. She's also the mayor's daughter."

I sigh and lay down on my bed. I stay there for a few minutes until I hear my phone chime with a text.

Liam: Sooooooo. How was your date?

Zach: Yeah. Give us all the juicy details.

Parker: It was great! We went to Dakota's.

Zach: Dakota's!! Isn't that place impossible to get into?

Liam: 2 words. Mayor's. Daughter.

Zach: Oh yeah.

Parker: You guys are weird.

Liam: Thank you.

Zach: Gracias.

Liam: Anywho. See you guys  tomorrow.

Parker: See ya

Zach: Adios

Iturn off my phone and smile. Realizing how hungry I am, I get up and bracemyself for the endless teasing I'm going to get from my family.
