Chapter 3

Tuesday 4:58 p.m.

Parker

"Die zombie die!", I yell out.

"Dude! Shhhhhhhh. My sister is asleep!", Liam whispers.

"Since when have you cared about your sister's sleep schedule?", I whisper back.

"Since my parents threatened to take away my car keys if I woke my sister up again!", Liam whispers.

"Oh. Sorry.", I say.

I'm at Liam's place right now, beating his butt at Minecraft PVP. Zach left a little while ago, claiming he had homework, but Liam and I both know he only ran off to hang out with his girlfriend, Stacy. Zach doesn't do homework.

"So dude, time to get serious.", Liam says, pausing the game.

"Your always serious.", I quip.

"Whatever. But like, do you have a crush on Shelby? The Mayor's daughter?", Liam asks me, trying not to smile.

"What? Why would you think that?", I reply a little too innocently.

"Because you've been staring at her all day. And you rushed to her aid when she dropped her books. And you volunteered to be her partner for our Language Arts project.", Liam lists.

"I'm just being nice! She's new and you never know when someone may need a friend!", I explain.

"I've never seen you be that nice to any new kid before. Besides, she's the Mayor's daughter. By the end of the week, there'll be a line of people vying to be her friend! You don't have to anything.", Liam says.

Whatever. I'm not listening to you anymore.", I reply.

"Fine. But be prepared to lose to my awesome gaming skills!", Liam says, unpausing the game.

"Oh I don't think so!", I yell.

"Shhhhhhhh!", Liam says as we laugh.

Today is the day. Friday, the day of the party. My parents were cool with it when I told them. They even said it was a great idea, because it gave them a chance for a date night.

"As long as you take your medicine.", they told me.

I have this feeling in my stomach, I don't know, something bad is going to happen. But of course, Jess says it'll be fine; that I'm just nervous.

"And then the banner will be in the front saying 'Welcome Westbrooke High Sophomores' since only sophomores have been invited. Speaking of which, all the invitations have been sent out, and so far, every sophomore at this school is coming! Wow! You've only been here a week, and you're already the most popular girl!", Jess says.

She's been rambling on like this since she came up with the idea of the party. I've just nodded my head, not listening to what she's saying. Oh well. I did agree to this.

                                                                                *

"Hey Liam! Wait up" I say, walking quickly to catch up with him.

"What's happening, Parker?", Liam asks.

"I was wondering if you were going to Shelby's party, cause I need a ride.", I say.

"Yeah, it's cool. Luckily my parents didn't take away my keys, despite how loud we've been this week.", Liam says laughing.

"It's not my fault! I'm just a naturally loud video game player!", I say defensively.

"It's ok. Me too. You can just come home with me, and then we'll go to the party.", Liam says.

"Thanks. My parents are out of town on business and my sister is taking the car tonight. So yeah." I thank him, with a slight bounce in my step.

"You seem really pumped for the party. Like over-excited. Are you sure you don't like Shelby?", Liam asks me.

"A guy can't be excited for a party without being accused of liking the host?", I ask.

"No.", Liam says blatantly.

"You've been asking me all week and all week I've said no. Are you ever going to let this go?", I ask exasperated.

"No.", Liam says smirking.

"Uhhhhhh!", I yell walking into class, making everyone look at me. I could care less what they think.

"I told Zach as well. He's on my side.", Liam whispers as we sit down and class starts.

"Of course he is! You two have it out for me, and nothing I say or do changes that!", I whisper back.

"Boys, unless you know enough about Ancient Egypt to teach this class, I believe you should be quiet.", Ms. Avery says to us.

"Yes ma'am.", Liam and I say in unison.

As class goes by, I can't help but wonder: what if I did start dating someone? Would my friends be supportive? The bell rings, snapping me out of my thoughts. I pack my books back into my backpack and walk out of the classroom with Liam. We walk out of the school building and meet up with Zach on the way to Liam's car.

"Ok guys! Let's go! I wonder what Shelby's house looks like on the inside!", Zach says, getting in the backseat of the car while Liam and I get in front.

"You didn't tell me Zach was coming!", I say to Liam.

"I didn't know he was coming! He just got in the car!", Liam says defensively.

"You guys know I can hear you right?", Zach says smiling.

"Yeah. We know.", Liam replies, making me and Zach laugh.

After a too long car ride, we arrive at Liam's place. "So make yourselves at home, just don't wake up Sophie. She is the most cranky six-year-old I've ever met. We can just chill here until it's time for the party. I would recommend you start your homework, but since when have you listened to me?", Liam says as he unlocks the front door and we walk inside the house. I set my backpack down on the dining room table, pull out my homework, and start working.

"Wait, you're actually listening to me?", Liam says, surprised.

"Yeah, you're right. I want to have my homework done so I can have fun at the party tonight.", I say not looking up.

Liam sits down and starts his work as well.

"Nerds.", Zach says making me and Liam laugh.
