Chapter 17

We paused our movie and tip toed gently down the stairs. I saw the shadow of the person.

"It's Nonso. You guys shouldn't be scared." I said walking down the stairs and into the kitchen. I put the kitchen lights on. Nonso jumped like he was startled.

"Hey babe." He said grinning from ear to ear.

"What happened here?" I looked around the kitchen to see spoons scattered on the kitchen counter.

"I was looking for a midnight snack but then I couldn't find the switch and my phone too so these happened." He demonstrated the 'these' with his hands.

I turned to look at the girls but they were no where to be found. They abandoned me.

Traitors.

"You didn't come down for dinner. Agnes asked about you. So where were you?" I asked sitting on the kitchen counter.

"I was in my room sleeping actually till hunger called and I had to look for something to eat." I nodded.

"There's stew in the freezer. Bring it out while I boil rice for us."

"Us? When did you become hungry?" He asked looking at me with one of his eyebrows raised.

"I'm always hungry." I sighed bringing out a pot and washing it.

While we boiled the rice and ate, we kept talking about things and his dad. His dad was responding to treatment but they didn't tell him about his dad's condition. I checked the time to see it was 12:17am, I washed the dishes, I kissed him and went to my room.

The next morning was quite uneventful. We woke up early and when I mean we I mean every single person. By 10, my girls and I  had all taken our baths. Nonso told me he was going out with some boys in my class. Uju decided we should go out to see a movie. Heaven knows what Amara wanted to do with her day.

We got to the movies around 12, we waited for about 20 minutes because the show time of the movie we wanted to see was by 12:22. After our movie, we went to ShopRite. Bukky and Jane wanted us to get snacks that we were going to feast on while playing truth or dare tomorrow. We all decided that we won't go anywhere tomorrow. We were going to stay indoors through out and then on Saturday, Bukky and Uju disappear to get ready for school. Jane decided to stay an extra week.

We got home around 6. My mom was at home already. She was helping Agnes cook in the kitchen.

"Good evening mom." I greeted the same time with Uju and Bukky.

"Aunty Awele how ya doing?" Jane asked smiling lovingly while we all looked at her. We knew what she was trying to do. She wanted to get on my mom's very good side so she can be given extra meat during dinner.

"Oh my favorite person. I'm fine oh. Still no extra meat for you sha. You betrayed me." My mom said with a hurt expression on her face while she put her hands on her chest for more effect.

"Oh my. What did I do to offend my favorite aunty?" Jane asked with a shocked look on her face. She's really a drama queen.

"You didn't ask about me. You don't care about me." My mom said wiping a fake tear from her eyes.

"No no. Don't say that. I do care-"

"It's okay biko! Mummy is whining you and you're following her. Wait I'm not even surprised self." Amara cut Jane off nearly screaming. It's obvious she was tired of the drama the same way we were.

"You just like spoiling show. Go away jor." We all laughed as Uju said it.

"So how was your day? And who are those goodies for?" My mom asked using her eyes to scan the bags in each of us hands. Yes I said it, bags. It's not my fault we couldn't decide what we wanted to get. We all have different tastes.

"For us of course. Anyway we'll see you guys later." With that we lined up and walked to my room. I could feel the gaze of everyone especially my mom boring holes into our heads. We got to my room, arranged the things we bought and sat down.

"I can't believe school will soon resume. This midterm is so nice like I don't want it to end." Uju practically whines.

Bukky who was typing furiously on her phone looked up and eyed Uju making us chuckle.

"It's true oh." Bukky suddenly said still looking at her phone.

"What's true?" I asked.

"Zainab and Jeremy are a thing now. She just posted two pictures and a video of them on her Instagram with plenty lovey-dovey hashtags." As if on cue, we all stood up from the places we were sitting and rushed to Bukky's side to see for ourselves.

Zainab and Jeremy were in a park. They looked cute together though. Zainab was grinning widely while Jeremy just smirked. The second picture was of them kissing while the third was a video.

"Eh! At least she can rest now. I don't still like her sha." Uju said with a frown on her face.

"It's obvious you never will." Jane replied her still staring hard at the picture. "I won't still like her too. She's too sneaky even though she's very pretty."

My sister suddenly barged into my room like I was cheating on her with another sister or something.

"What is it?" I asked eyeing her.

"Don't be a rude rat jare. I came to spend time with my baby sister and her little chumkins."

"Just say you're bored and you're looking for who will entertain you." Jane said staring at my sister with a bored expression on her face.

My sister scowled at her. "So what are we talking about. I know you guys always have gist especially these two." She said pointing at both Uju and Bukky.

"Zainab is dating Jeremy." Uju said shrugging.

"It's a lie. And we placed a bet on them in my class. That means I'm getting 2k." Amara said dancing and grinning while we all looked at her with annoyance on our faces; more like we were glaring at her. "What nah? We knew something was going to happen eventually. Besides you didn't want him back and Zainab was ever ready to receive him and she's hot you know."

"Go away jor. Don't tell me you're going to stay in this room till you want to sleep." My sister stared at me blankly. I knew what that look meant. She clearly meant 'isnt it obvious?'

"By the way, mom said I should call you guys. Dinner is ready. I can't believe I came her to start gossiping when I was sent on an errand-" she continued mumbling till she was out of earshot and we all sighed in relief.

This is going to be a long night.

What's up people? So I'm actually so happy. Like 600+ views. When I checked yesterday, it was still in 598 I think; I woke up this morning to see this and I decided to post today. I wasn't planning on posting today at all. I've not really had time for Wattpad. I've exams coming up but I want to finish this book as soon as possible.
