People always ask why bad things happen to good people, why the world has to be filled with such horrible things. Unfortunately, we cannot change the things that happen to us, but I know we can change how it affects us in the future. Some of us can move passed all of it and some don't survive it at all...

I was one of those lucky enough to be able to move passed everything that had happened to me, but I wouldn't have been able to do it without Matt by my side.
My parents had died shortly after I was born and I was placed into the foster system, and by the time I was 5 years of age I was placed with a family that purely only cared for the pay cheques of child support grants that they received from the government.
The father was just another drunk and he would always find a reason to punish us kids, most of the time for things we didn't do.
The mother, she was just as scared of the husband as we were.

By the time I became a teenager I found every excuse I could to make sure I spent as little time as possible at home.
I was 16 at the time that I met Matt. That was the day my life truly began...

I had stopped by a coffee shop on the way home one day, trying to prolong my time away so that by the time I got home everyone would be asleep. He was out with some friends, and he had seen me brooding in a corner booth while waiting for my order.
He didn't think twice about it and casually strolled over to my table with his friends in tow. He had started introducing me to them and was persistent on lightening my mood, it's one of the reasons I adore him so much.
He explained later that night before they all left that he couldn't pass up the opportunity to try make a pretty girl smile and that is why he came over to my table, not wanting to leave until he knew for sure that I was happy in that moment.

Matt and I kept in contact since that night, and it didn't take him long to figure out my situation back at home. Every time we met up, he would discover a new bruise or cut on my body, and I would have to beg him not to go back to my place and beat up the man that did all that to me.

About two years later, we discovered that Matt had cancer. Our world fell apart; everything took a drastic turn. Now it was my time to be strong for Matt.
I started spending more time at the Campbells' home to care for him and they had started treating me like family, for everything I have done and especially for staying by Matt's side through everything. But his physical health kept deteriorating and things just kept getting worse.

It was then that Matt finally had been able to persuade me to leave that godforsaken house and the clutches of my adoptive father – as I had always been made to believe by that drunk that I will never be able to leave that house of his and if I ever should, he will hunt me down and drag me back. But Matt gave me the strength and the courage to leave. He needed me now, more than I ever needed him; I had to ensure I can be there for him without anything holding me back.
