"What the hell just happened?" Annie screeched as we all kept our eyes trained on the door, hoping to god they didn't come back through it. Our gazes drifted to the window as we watched the black car speed away, finally giving us a chance to breathe.
"Maybe you can tell me, cause I don't remember robbing a god damn grocery store!" I turn toward them with a glare.
"It was a moment of bad judgement, we needed the money." Beth explained, the guilt evident in her voice.
"Sarah's surgery's going to cost ten grand." Ruby piped in.
"And the custody lawyer is charging me to dm her." I look at them with bewilderment.
"Why couldn't you just tell me? I could've helped you with the money! All of this could have just been avoided." I retort.
"You know we can't do that Vi." Beth was the first to deny my help again.
"Besides I had no idea you were that loaded, where did you get that money?" Annie questioned and I knew I had to think on my feet.
"I've owned that mall since I was 22 and I don't have anything else to spend money on so it's no dent really." I shrugged it off non-chalantly but they weren't buying it at all. "Besides I have a bunch of investments that I cash in on all the time." They looked increasingly skeptical so I took it as my queue to leave.
"But what about those men? Are you a gang leader too?" I chuckled at the accusation thrown my way and passed that off to.
"God no, I wouldn't be caught dead in a hoodie like that." I joked but they weren't impressed. "I've got to head back to the office and do some damage control, I'll see you all later." I made my way over to to the front door before I was stopped again.
"We'll get you back the money Vi, you really saved our asses today." Beth stated with gratitude and pulled me in for a hug, Annie and Ruby weren't far behind as we all embraced together. The three of us tried to fathom how just minutes ago we were held at gunpoint begging for our lives.
"Keep the money, it won't be missed. Besides I'd rather you all had a safety net if Rio and his boys decide to come back." Before they could object again I placed my hand on the door knob. "Lock the door behind me and stay safe please?" They nodded and I exited the house, hearing the click of the lock behind me.
I made my way to the black audi and slid into the driver's seat, shutting the door and placing the keys in the ignition. My eyes closed for a minute, fully taking in just how lucky I'd been to escape that situation unscathed. Taking a deep breath I pulled out of the driveway and drove the distance to the mall.
The radio blared a little too loud as I partially zoned out, my mind so pre-occupied with just who my sister-in-law had gotten herself involved with. Before I even registered where I was I'd pulled into my car spot, the name plaque making me feel far more important than I needed to.
"Thank god you're okay." Peter exclaimed before I even had the chance to step out of my car.
"Why wouldn't I be?" I locked the car and walked toward the building, leaving Peter to catch up with me.
"The gang in your brother's living room, who've we pissed off this time?" He joked as I fixed my burgundy blazer and ruffled my blonde hair with a sigh, signifying the seriousness of the situation at hand. I gave myself a once over in the reflective glass of the door before entering the building. To be met with my employees, all trying not to stare with worry.
"It's not Dean, it's Beth." I retort as we finally reached the elevator.
"Beth? What could she have possibly done to piss off a gang? She a drug lord too?" I cracked a small smile as the elevator doors closed, leaving the two of us, he pressed the top floor as we continued the conversation.
"She couldn't hack it, it's not an easy feat." I chuckled lightly. "Her and her friends robbed a grocery store that was laundering for whoever the fuck that gang thinks they are." The doors beep and seperate, revealing my most trustworthy employees.
"Boss! We were so worried!" I gave them all a reassuring smile, gathering everyone's attention.
"Thank you all for following protocol so closely, nobody was hurt, just a little business exchange is all. You can all get back to work now, thank you again." They all got back to their respective desks with little fuss. I motioned for Peter to follow me to my office.
"Do you want me to get a background on this gang?" He asked.
"You read my mind. I need everything, they don't look like they're going away anytime soon and I don't need anyone stepping on my toes." My assistant hopped up from her desk at my arrival, her binder filled with more new paperwork.
"Miss Boland? There's a couple of clients that have left messages for you. They're on the machine, something about a late shipment." She looks to me expectantly as I rake a hand through my hair with stress. This is exactly what I needed right now.
"Thanks Candace I'll take care of it, can you cancel my meetings for the rest of the afternoon please?" She scribbles something on a piece of paper before looking back at me.
"Of course." She makes her way back to her desk as we enter the office.
"Thank you!" I exclaim, shutting the door behind Peter and I. "Now the gang's laundering through the store Annie works at, the Fine and Frugal?" Pete nods for me to continue. "The leader's name or alias is Rio, I want to know everything as soon as possible. Can you do that?" I look up from the paperwork to clarify with him.
"On it boss." His vibrant green eyes closing into a wink before exiting the office, making sure to close the door on his way out.
With all of that sorted I returned to the paperwork, finding there was a problem with one of my deliveries. It had gotten held up in one of the warehouses and hadn't shipped out yesterday like it was supposed to leaving me with some of the country's finest on the phone to complain. I picked up the phone and dialled one of the numbers on the list with my best business voice ready to convince them not to stop using our business.
"Stanfill Industries, Richard Stanfill speaking." His almost robotic voice sounded over the phone and I could tell this wouldn't be fun. He was the CEO of a ring of strip clubs and one of our biggest consumers, losing his business was not a possibility. Especially with the threat of a potential new drug ring operating.
"Richard! It's Violetta Boland, listen I hear one of our shipments is late. Look so sorry for the inconvenience but I think we can figure something out don't you?" I spoke sweetly into the line.
"We have a big night tonight, how the fuck are we supposed to keep the tips flowing without some fairy dust to get em in the mood?" I rolled my eyes lightly, thankful he couldn't see my disinterest.
"I know and trust me it'll be there by open tonight with a little extra." I convinced, propping my feet on the desk.
"What kind of extra?" His interest was piqued and I knew I had him back where I wanted him.
"Let's just say my scientists have been very busy concocting something very special." He was silent on the other side of the line so I continued. "Something that hasn't even reached the streets yet, high quality as usual."
"Alright fine, but next time you won't be so lucky." He warns and my smile widens.
"Oh there won't be a next time. I'll have everything sorted and there in a couple of hours. Pleasure doing business."
"Always a pleasure." I roll my eyes at his smugness and hang up the phone, pressing the buzzer for Candace.
"Candace? Set up another shipment to get to Stanfill by 6 and throw in some of the new stuff." I request, ticking the man's name off of the list. One down, eight more to go.
Missing shipment, missing shipment, meeting reschedule, quality check, customs scare, client disagreement, meeting reschedule and a personal call.
I definitely had my work cut out for me this afternoon.
I've decided that June Diane Raphael is the face claim for Violetta, she's the most badass business woman in Grace and Frankie and fits the role so well.
Also thanks again for all the votes and comments x
