Ava

He burst through the door at two in the morning. He could barely stand on his own, much less walk.

"Ava," He slurred my name and fell onto the couch. I had fallen asleep there, but got up and stared at him.

"You had me worried to death." I hit his arm.

"I saw Harrison." He wouldn't look at me.

"Why?" My heart beat was suddenly beating faster than I could keep up with.

"He didn't even remember you when I brought you up." He rolled his eyes.

"What?" I took a step back.

"He called you boring and ugly." He added. I could feel tears sting my eyes.

"Oh look, you're going to cry over him again." He stumbled up and into the kitchen. He poured himself a glass of water, chugged it, and poured another.

"He really didn't remember?" I whispered.

"I told you you were wasting your time." He muttered. I felt a tear slip down my cheek.

"But I would never hurt you A." He walked closer to me. "I'd never do that." He repeated. I took a few steps away from him, brushing away my tears.

"Chris," I looked at him and he suddenly looked sober. "You just did." I felt more tears fall down my face but I didn't even care. I stood there, crying like an idiot as his face crumbled.

"Ava," His voice was rough.

"I'm tired." I whispered. "Goodnight."

I woke up before Chris and made coffee. Chris was one of the few people coffee helped during a hangover. I made pancakes and set a plate aside for him.

Around noon, he crept out of his room and when he saw me, he looked away.

"I made breakfast." I told him. "It's cold now though." I added. He shrugged and sat down at the table.

"Why are you dressed so fancy?" He asked me.

"I'm going apartment hunting." I told him, setting a hot cup of coffee in front of him.

"What?" He stood up so fast, his chair fell.

"Chris, we can't live together." I told him.

"Bullshit." He grabbed my wrist.

"Stop it." I squirmed out of his grip.

"Ava, please." He begged me. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry." He kept shaking his head and telling me how sorry he was. "I even knocked that motherfucker out last night. I couldn't even fathom how someone forgets someone like you, I mean... God, just look at you." He shook his head again. "Damn it." He sat back down. "Sorry. All of this is my fault. I apologize from the bottom of my heart Ava." He sipped his coffee. I sat across from him and reached over and took a sip from his coffee.

"You know, I might be." I shrugged.

"You might be what? Ava, if you're going to get a new apartment, at least don't rub it in." He shook his head.

"Falling in love." I stared at him and his head shot up. We were both silent.

"You don't have to say that to make me feel better." He finally said.

"Why would I want to make you feel better after last night?" I raised my eyebrow.

"Can I take you out, tonight, please?" He looked at me with hopeful eyes. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I opened them and smiled.

"What took you so long?"
