The ocean cried in nearly as much despair as she was in. Devastated she had yet to be, but she looked him in the eye, his left because both her eyes together were too weak to look in both of his, and she'd always been right dominant, now hopefully stronger in her right eye as well. It didn't make much of a difference. She kissed him tenderly on the each stream of tears, as if she was attempting to will them to cease. He cocked his head all of a sudden, kissing her on the lips instead.
"My tears need no attention." He wiped hers, and tucked her hair behind her right ear, which she had always thought made her look worse, and she tried to put it back, only for him to grab her hand and pull her toward him. He gave her a unimaginably delicate still kiss, and buried his face in her hair on her left shoulder. She was engulfed by his arms then, and she relished the feeling of his heat, knowing she was only further wetting his shirt, assisting the saltwater's spray on their sides.
"They don't have to need it to get it. I refuse to not, because I will always want to give you attention," she tore her face from his chest to declare, trying to swallow her anguish to help his, "You, of all people, should know this." With much effort she finally managed to get somewhat some space between them, because she knew if she'd stayed that close for that long, she would've not been able to ever remove herself. Because she never wanted to. Her self control only went so far when she was with him.
She smiled melancholically, hardly an inch of her smile truly showing up, she was sure, and she turned to leave. Please, please. Make me stay. She wanted an excuse, to blame. I would do anything for you.
But he didn't. She veered back in the direction of his unmoving body, and ran past the wind. The saltiness of the air did nothing to suppress the bittersweet of now, but she ran. Toward him, toward the one she naively loved, that her young, unknowing self loved.
She was enraptured by him as she pulled his neck to bring him down a little short of enough, and raised herself on her tippy-toes, kissing him as if it was the last time she would see him.
And it was.
