LUCAS stood there before springing up in action.
"She's dying." He thought.
"SOMEBODY CALL 911!" He yelled out.
"Lucas buddy. She'll be fine. Let's just go." Riley said hesitantly as he looked disgustingly at Venice. Lucas wanted to maul him with his bare hands but concentrated on the unconcious Venice.
Lucas knew he could deal with Riley later, right now his mind was occupied with the girl lying unconscious on the floor. He put his ear near her mouth and checked her pulse. Her breathing was shallow and her pulse was weak, but she was alive.
Her face was covered in dirt and blood so he couldn't exactly make out whom she was.
He heard the faint sound of sirens and watched as his teammates scurried away from the possible murder scene. But he stuck by the girl's side holding her hand, rubbing hers frail arm with his own large palm.
"You're going to be okay. I promise." He chanted in her ear as if she could hear every word he was saying. He had read somewhere that an unconscious person could feel and hear you even though their eyes were shut their other senses heightened.
As the sirens grew louder he lifted the girl in his arms and carried her bridal style towards the front of the school.
The flashing lights and loud sound of the ambulance was hardly noticeable in the rain but he could see it coming closer. The lights grew brighter as the ambulance came to a stop.
He watched as they took the girl out of his arms and began performing procedures on her. He watched them perform CPR as he stood frozen in his spot. When he saw them rip off her shirt and bring out the AED he was scared. That only meant that she was dying and that her heart had actually stopped.
"CLEAR." The paramedic yelled as he placed the two pads on her chest. She jerked up along with the shock.
Lucas's mind began to turn. Was this what it was like to watch someone die? If it was he hoped he never sees such a scene again. His own vision began to blur with tears. He was watching a girl die right before his eyes and all he felt was guilty. If he had been there a couple minutes earlier, she would be okay. She wouldn't be battling against death. What if he hadn't been here? What if he had left a couple minutes earlier? What if coach hadn't called him in to talk about the plays? Just the thought of what would have happened to the girl had his cheeks stained with tears. He didn't know the exact reason for the salty tears but maybe it had to do with the guilt overwhelming him or the what ifs occupying his mind.
He was so wrapped in his own thoughts he hadn't realized they had loaded the girl onto the gurney. They pulled her into the ambulance and got in themselves leaving Lucas behind as they drove off.
There were two things Lucas knew for sure. He wasn't going to let any one of his teammates get away with this. He was going to make sure they suffer in ways worse than she did.
And that he was going to protect her if she pulls through. He had to.
