"They say she's in the class A Team // Stuck in her daydreams // Been this way since 18." - A Team, Ed Sheeran
***
VENICE stared at the ground as her brother yelled at the receptionist. She had felt so guilty when she heard he dropped everything in California when he heard that she was in a... tough predicament. She had tried to convince him to return but he refused adamantly. She was persistent but he was stubborn.

Her eyes grew wide when she saw Lucas McKenna standing in the doorway staring straight at her with those dark blue eyed that penetrated her soul. Her breath hitched in her throat at him. He was undoubtedly gorgeous but why he was here was unknown to her. His dark blonde hair gelled to perfection. He wore khaki skinny jeans and his letterman varsity jacket. He was the epitome of perfection.

She would see him laughing with his friends in the hallways and in classes, though she was sure he had never seen her in his life. She spent the last three years hiding in the back of the class and in the shadows of the crowds, basically making sure she stayed hidden. Now she had the full attention of the school's golden boy and that scared her. What if he wanted to hurt her? He was there during the time of the incident, what if he was apart of it? What if he was going to take advantage of her injuries and beat her into silence? What if this time she may not survive?

She saw his eyes move from her to her brother and he said three words that had her slightly shaking.

"I'll protect her." His voice held a certain determination to it that warmed her cold heart. Either he was serious or a better liar than she assumed.

Her brother, Jonathon, completely oblivious to her distraught, sized Lucas up.

"And who are you?" Jonathon asked raising an eyebrow.

"A friend." Venice almost snorted and looked at Lucas and his completely serious face. A friend? Since when?
Her brother turned toward Venice. "Is this guy," he pointed towards Lucas, "your friend?"

Venice stared up at him, frozen in her wheelchair before nodding slowly.
Jonathan turned towards Lucas and sternly stared at him. "Alright, chump. If anything happens to my sister under your watch, I will not hesistate to chop your head off and I'm not talking about the one people see." Jonathon made a slicing motion on his neck. Venice almost forgetting Lucas's presence rolled her eyes at her brother and softly smiled.

"Alright Ness, I'll be here to pick you up after school. And I want names of anyone who bothers you so I can beat them to a pulp. By the time I'm done with them, they won't even remember who they are." Jonathon planted his lips on her forehead and she smiled, nodding at him. She rolled her eyes at the nickname he had given her when they we're young. It was not even remotely close to her real name, but he always told her that Venice was a mouthful to say.

Jonathan was extremely over-protective after the incident. Venice felt bad that he's letting his life revolve around hers. She frowned upon it telling him that he needed to go out and live his own life, but he assured her it was no problem and arguing with Jonathon was a one-sided battle. He either ignored her until she gave up or continued arguing with her until she grew tired of fighting.

As Venice watched Jonathon's retreating figure, girls began hawking and drooling at the sight of him. Jonathon had always been a looker. His brunette hair and pale blue eyes were similar to hers but he just happened to pull it off better. He was previously 'Mr. Bad Boy's before he left for college on the other side of the country. Even when he was at school the bullying was inevitable but Venice made sure Jonathan never came to know about it. When he was at school last year it wasn't too bad because he could easily destroy whoever messed with his baby sister. There was some pushing and shoving, even verbal insults thrown here and there, nothing too bad, but as soon as he left the bullying grew more violent and progressively worse.

"So..." Lucas trailed off. "What are your classes?"

Venice looked at him in disbelief. Did he really think she was going to let him near her? For all she knew he could have been in on the entire 'accident'.
As if hearing her thoughts he took long strides until he was standing in front of her. He kneeled down so he was staring right into her eyes. She turned her head so she was looking at anything but him.

"You can trust me. I won't hurt you." He reassured her. Venice relaxed her shoulders a bit, but she knew she couldn't keep her guard down.

She slowly nodded at him before bringing out her schedule from her bag and handed it to him.

She watched as he grinned looking at them. "Her we have all the same classes except for three. You must be brilliant with all AP and Honors classes you're taking."

Venice's lips were tainted with a smile.
"So we have AP Biology, AP U.S. History and Honors Calculus together and I'll wait for you outside of your other classes. Is that okay?"

Venice kept her face blank of emotion and slowly nodded before her face froze and her eyed widened.

She had just realized the other two classes she had were with Riley O'Conner.
