     CHAPTER 1

My name's Eli Reece. I was born and raised on the beautiful coast of the Caribbean. I'm half English and half Spanish. My parents have been married for over 17 years and today would be my birthday. Oh, yes the mind boggling date of a persons birth. Tonight at midnight I'm going to be 18, and my life will have just barely begun with a new and totally interesting jump start. I live on the Reece Estate. The biggest beach house you have ever seen, and also a pain to clean it. My room was on the top balcony, at least a 20 feet drop into the warm ocean coast. It wasn't the first time that I've jumped of my balcony porch into the ocean, but as I looked outside my window, I got the weird feeling that something big was going to knock me off my two sun-drenched, and perfectly sculpted legs. You got to give me some credit, I haven't actually been sitting my butt down on this beautiful island all my life. I worked myself up to being handy with my hands and the rest of my body of course. Yeah, you may think that I'm just really conceited, or just really desperate to get a date. It's the second reason by the way, but anyway back to my story of drowning.

You see when I said I got the weird feeling that something big was going to hit me, I had spoken way to soon. All I remember was getting out of bed, walking outside to my balcony, and looking out towards the sea. Just a normal routine I go through every morning. Then, when I look down, I see something purple and blue glistening in the water. It moved with such grace, like it had a skirt of blue and lavender diamonds for a tail... wait I thought to my self. What exactly am I looking at? Then, when I leaned forward to get a better look, and out of the water came flew a rock. It came at me with such force that all I saw was stars, and that's when I lost all my balance. My life flashed before my eyes and I wondered if I was going to drown. I wondered if anyone had seen what had just happened and come t rescue me. If not, then surely, I would imagine my unconscious, hopefully not dead, body washed up on shore.

As I finally hit the water from the 20 foot drop, that's when I knew I was drowning, or just swallowed so much sea water that I was seeing things. Before I blacked out, I stared upwards the surface of the water. The sun looked beautiful from the bottom of the ocean too. Then, that's when I saw her. She was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. Her hair was black and looked silky in the water. She came towards me with graceful, outreached arms. Her face was what caught my eyes the most. Her eyes were electric blue, her nose was perfect, her mouth were lush and kissable... they begged me to kiss them. But what shocked me the most was the glistening tail that followed her. It was Mostly sapphire blue, with a flew splashes of lavender scales. Even though it was weird to look at, it fit her profile. I didn't  care if I was dead or dreaming, I was curious about what was going to happen next. So I didn't even bother trying to swim up to the surface.

She came closer and pulled me towards her. She looked into my eyes and kissed me. Despite the cold water her lips were warm and tasted like sugar. She pulled away and drew her lips close to my ear and whispered the one word I will remember my whole life. Her name,"Serena". Then that's when my sight grew dimmer and dimmer by the second. Then everything went black.
