I woke up with the sun in my eyes and sand covering every inch of my body. I couldn't believe what just happened to me. I felt like a part of me drowned in the sea and I woke up with a brand new soul. I could tell I had been out for about 2 hours. I looked up at the sky and could tell it was just about noon. The sun was shining and it gave the sea a trail of diamonds. I thought about what happened before I woke up. That's right! I almost drowned this morning. Then, I remembered a face. Her face. Serena, the beautiful creature I saw and KISSED! She was perfect and apparently the only person I couldn't stop thinking about. Something bothered me though... yeah she was pretty and all, but what is a girl like her doing at the bottom of the ocean? Then it hit me hard. Harder than that stupid rock that knocked me off my feet. I'd seen something else on that girl. She was something else. Serena... a mermaid. I was probably just imagining things, or had swallowed too much salt water, but I couldn't help imagining the sapphire and lavender tail she had. What am I thinking, I thought to myself. Mermaids aren't real! I did grow up with the old women and the fishermen down at the dock telling stories to scare little children, but I knew that they were just silly folklore. Maybe.

"What the hell are you thinking, Eli? Get yourself off the sand and stop wondering about mysterious fish ladies!", I said whispering to myself.

It was finally time to recognize that it was time for me to get the party stared for tonight. So, I slowly got up, and checked if any part of my body had been chomped or ripped off by the sharks. Gladly, I was in ship shape, and didn't feel any pain while I checked myself from head to toe. I skimmed around to see if I recognized the area, and I did. It was the sea shore next to my estate. I looked towards my right and could see where I had fallen from my balcony into the water. It wasn't that bad, but it still was lucky I didn't hit the side of the cliff while going down. I walked towards the gates of the main garden, and opened it. The smell of faint roses and different exotic plants seeped into my nose as I inhaled the wondrous scents. I remember as a child running around the garden and playing hide and seek with my mom and dad. I missed those old times when all you worried about was the monsters in your closet or under your bed. One thing I didn't miss about the old days was the reaction of what I thought about girls. I laugh towards my old self and how I had been so childish, but I will always be that fun loving brat on the inside.

"Eli!", I was startled and almost jumped out of my shorts. I looked around and saw no one. Then right behind me someone tackled be to the ground. "Eli, where have you been all morning?"

I looked up laughing. It was my little sister, Scarlet. "I don't know what you're talking about, Scarlet." I paused and put on my serious face. Then she got off me and backed away with her head hanging low, and I could tell she was getting ready to sob. I smiled and laughed louder than before."Scarlet, you know I was just kidding." I pulled her into a tight hug and said, "I love you, and you'll always be my girl." I pulled away and didn't expect another tackle to the ground.

"Just kidding!" She laughed as we wrestled and I tickled her. "You smell funny, Eli!" She finally noticed that I was drenched in sand and smelled like seaweed. She looked at me with a curious, but happy expression and said, "What happened?"

For a 8 year old girl, she was just as curious as me. "I wanted to go out for a dip.... so jumped off my balcony." She stood there astonished and mesmerized. Her face was priceless. As her eyes bulged out and her mouth dropped, I couldn't help but laugh and cry at her reaction.

"Are you crazy?" she said in a loud voice. "Mom would kill you if she knew this." She looked around trying to see if any of the maids were in sight.

" C'mon what mom doesn't  know, won't hurt her." I said slyly. I bent down on my knees and whispered in her ear, "This will be our little secret. OK?" I knew this wasn't exactly being a good example, but she was the only person who could keep a secret. I wouldn't tell her about the half girl/fish incident though. What kind of brother would I be to put stuff like that into her little brain? "Pinky promise, Scarlet?", I said putting out my pinky.
