I heard it... so beautiful. This time it was closer, and more amazing, I couldn't stop listening to it. Everything is so dark. So lonely... I woke up alone and this time when I opened my eyes all I saw was a cave ceiling. I got up slowly... again. GREAT, just great. I've had a long day and THIS was definatley getting old.

As I got up, I found myself next to a glowing pool. It was just one of those cavern oasises that were found all over the island, but this one was different. It glowed brighter than any other underground pools Iv'e ever seen. I looked into it and saw somethin. I pinched myself to check if I was still unconcious, or dreaming. Unfortunately, I was awake. I must be going crazy, because IT was coming to the surface.

I saw HER. Serena. Every part of me froze, and melted on the spot. She was stunning and butterflies fluttered widely throughout my stomache. I moved back a 3 steps away from the bright pool, and sat on a big rock. As her dark hair flowed to the surface and she swam around playfully. I still couldn't believe she was right in front of me!

"UH..." was all I could say. She stopped and turned around. She smiled and swam nearer towards the edge of the pool. Her tail followed her, glistening with blue and lavendar specks. Her eyes locked onto mines and I seemed to feel my heart pound out of my chest again. I loved the feeling.

"Hi." Her voice echoed through my head. She raised an eyebrow and smirked. "So. You gonna say something, other than 'uh'?" She giggled.

"I...Uh... Your... Not.. Real." I looked with wide eyes. "I mean. No. Um. Hi!"

She pulled herself out of the water, and her hair reached down to her waist. She sat up so that I could see her whole upper torso and tail. Her breasts were covered with two large blue and pink shells. She was totally drenched, but beautiful to look at.

"So, what do you think of me? A freak, mutation, or just another species of fish?" She didn't look angry. Just sounded curious. "Well?"

"Beautiful." was all I could say. "That's the truth."

"Oh. Really? As if I didn't know that already." She sounded cocky, but I could scence something else. Fear. "Do you remember me?"

"How could I forget... Serena. You were the one that threw that rock. It was you wasn't it?" I smiled back and said, "You kissed me."

She blushed intensely. She looked deeper into my eyes. Then she turned back into her cocky tone. "More like saved your pathetic life. I wasn't sure if I would regret it or not, but I guess it would be to early to tell." She moved her hair out of her eyes, but still had her eyes on mine.

"Thank you, Serena." I said. Then added, "I owe you one. A really big one. If it wasn't for you, then I would be dead on my birthday." I got up slowly. She didn't look scared, but I knew deep down inside she was frightened to death. I walked closer and sat next to her. I was attracted to her so much, that I didn't even think of what she would do if I got too close. "I know it's a stupid question to ask, but are you a mermaid?"

"If you haven't noticed... I've got the tail to prove it." She smiled flirtatiously. She showed her perfect white and bright teeth when she smiled. "Your not scared of me?"

"Why should I be? You did save my life," I paused. Then finally said, "and you don't seem like the kind of person who would do anything to hurt me."

She moved her head closer towards mine. I did too. Time slowed down so fast, that I could hear our hearts beat in unison. We closed our eyes and kissed. I put my hand against her face, and cupped it gently to get every taste of her mouth and scent. She didn't even smell like a fish... more like the fresh smell of roses. I felt her hands and arms ring themselvs around my neck and pull herself closer to me. Our kiss got intense and deeper my the second, but it felt like forever since I felt these lips on mine. So soft and perfect. I couldn't wish for anything else better than a kiss from her on my birthday. I slipped my hands around her waist and tightened my grip. I didn't want to let go of her embrace. She was what I ever wanted... NO. She's all Iv'e ever needed.

As we pulled away slowly, we stopped and stared into each others eyes. I tried to get every part of her face into my head. I wanted to keep her amazing image with me until the day I die. She was worth living for. I love... Serena. I let go and caressd her cheeck with my hand.

"Wow. I have never felt this way before.", I finally siad, after we caught our breaths. "Please, tell me you feel it too?"

She smiled, then said, "I felt it when I first kissed you, Eli."

"I'm in love with a mermaid... and she's the most amazing kisser in the whole seven seas!" I laughed and she giggled bubbly. "Wait... how do you know my name?"

"When I kissed you, I saw every memory you lived, and that's how I got your name." she looked at me with a worried expression. "Are you mad?"

"Well, I think it's just fair. Now that you know everything about me, I can get to know everything about YOU." I raised a brow. "So how bout it? Will you be willing to spill the beans about yourself?"

"Alright, but promise not to tell that you know that I even exsist?" she said. "Promise?"

I held out my pinky. "Pinky promise. Cross my heart hope to die."

"How intense! I trust you, Eli. With all my heart." She hooked her pinky around

mines. "It's just Serena. Age: 17, loves to swim, play with the dolphins, hates shell fish and is terribly allergic to them, loves to bathe in the sun, and loves the color blue. Also loves an extremely handsome human." she smirked and kissed my cheeck. "If you didn't catch that I was talking about you." She said with a cute wink.

"Well, I'm honored." I kissed her back on the forehead. "If you don't mind me asking... do you have a family?"

"Um... Kinda ran away form home...", she looked away. She sounded so disappointed. "My dad and I had a fight and I got mad... so I couldn't take it anymore. He tried to lock me in my room, but I managed to get away when he wasn't looking."

"Oh... I'm sure he's worried... I would be." then i asked, "what was the fight about?"

She hesitated a little, but she gave in, "I'm actually supposed to get married to this one high strung merman... but it was an arranged marriage... I didn't even love the guy!" She paused, "When I first saw you on your balcony, you looked so relaxed and something about you made me fall for you... it was the way you looked. You looked kind of sad, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to get your attention. But, I threw the rock a tad to hard and well you know the rest. Then, I saw you fall into the water... I didn't want to let you die and I kissed you and pulled you to shore."

"Married! Your too young for that!" I thought about her being with another guy... it made me angry.  "Haven't your people ever heard of legal age of marriage? I would beat the living hell out of the guy you were gonna end up with... you deserve better than a guy who doen't know how you truly feel."

"Well, I just want to be with a person who treats me like a queen... about royalty... I'm actually a princess." She smiled awkwardly at my stunned expression. "I'm so sorry, Eli! This is probably alot to deal with. But I don't want to go back to that hell hole."

"I won't force you to go. In fact, I would be sad if you left me. You are my girl and no one's gonna take you from me." I kissed her cheeck gently, and looked at my watch. it was about 3:00 a.m.! "O my gosh! Mom's gonna kill me!" I looked at Serena.

"What's wrong?" she sounded scared. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah I'm fine, but my mom's gonna kill me! I kinda didn't tell anyone where I was headed. So, babe I gotta go." I kissed her one more time. My tongue slid over her's and more inside of her mouth. I pulled away and kissed her forhead slowly. "Promise I'll see you tomorrow. Here. OK?"

"I promise, love." She sqeezed my hand. "I love you, Eli"

I smiled. I felt so happy and I thought I was on top of the world. I stared into her eyes, and said it. The words I would never regret saying. "I love you more, Serena."

I got up quickly, and she sipped back into the water. I walked towards the entrance, and I watched my step. I looked back and she waved towards me, then she was gone.

It was the best day of my life... later did I know that it was just the beginning of a new adventure. The best one yet to come. I love her... and she was all could possible think about. Love... it feels great.
