After the discussion Tammy had with Lou and Debbie after letting them in on her secret she prepared herself for letting the others know. Apparently the rest of the girls helped the Oceans in previous jobs and have stated they needed someone for a new job they wanted to try out. The girls persuaded Tammy to be that someone and that's how she found herself pacing in front of the other 5 members of their group.
"Yo you gonna chill and tell us what's up or you tryin to make a hole in the floor?" Nine ball asked.
Gathering her courage Tammy stopped pacing. " I'm not who you all think I am. I'm not really just a normal student at Jackson high. I- I'm what you call a fence. I infiltrate and get information on the inside to manipulate it for the outcome that is wanted. I've been doing that for about 2 years now."
"Wait so you mean you a criminal and shit? Bitch that's amazing. Now we don't gotta pretend we not talking about a job in front of her." Constance said. "You two knew about this and didn't tell us?" Turning to Deb and Lou and questioned.
Shaking their heads Debbie spoke up for the first time since Tammy told them the truth. "We had no idea. Apparently she's too good at what she does that not even my contacts knew who she was. We just found out by my parents, she wasn't even going to tell us." Hurt shone through her voice at the end causing Tammy to look apologetically at her but she wouldn't look at her.
Turning to look at Lou for help but all she received was a shoulder shrug and a 'Talk later' mouthed at her. Nodding at that, Tammy looked to the rest of the group. "So, any questions or are we good?"
"We're good, just next time we do a job you're helping us. Understand?" Nine told her causing her to smile and nod her head. "Absolutely I'd love to."
"Great. Now that's settled I'm going to my room for a minute. Lou you coming?" Debbie said while walking to the door. Lou followed but on her way out grabbed Tammy. "You're coming too tam, you two need to talk." Rolling her eyes and letting out an exasperated sigh Debbie led them up the stairs to her bedroom.
Once they reached Debbie's room, Lou pushed Tammy towards the bed while giving Debbie a look when she walks around the bed to the vanity chair. "Go sit next to Tammy now."
Letting out an exasperated sigh, Debbie sat as far away from Tammy as possible while still sitting on the bed. Rolling her eyes at Debbie, Lou grabbed a chair and sat it in front of them.
The silence was eating at Tammy and she felt hurt that Debbie doesn't want to be anywhere near her. "Debbie I'm sorry. I didn't know who you were or how to tell you." Receiving no acknowledgment from the brunette Tammy sighed and stood. " I'll be leaving then. I'm really sorry if I've hurt you." Looking at Lou she smiled sadly. " See you at school Monday, thank you for inviting me this weekend."
Tears welled up in her eyes as she walked out the room and down the stairs. Hearing the girls start to walk out the living room she ran out the front door. She ran for what felt like hours but knowing it was only minutes she reached an abandoned park and collapsed on a bench sobbing.
Meanwhile Debbie and Lou were still in the same spot Tammy left them. Stunned by what just happened the two of them looked at each other before Lou glared at Debbie. " I hope you know what you did Deborah. I hope you are happy with what you did. You hurt her, you said you would never hurt her and look at what you did. You fucked up debbie." Lou stood up quickly and walked to the door.
"You're leaving me too then?" Debbie's voice cracked with emotion as she asked.
Turning to look at the brunette, " No, but I am going to find that girl before she gets in trouble. Who knows what's going on in her head right now. Are you even concerned for her or are you only concerned for yourself?" With that she walked out leaving Debbie to her thoughts.
'Are you only concerned for yourself' ran through her head for a few minutes before there was a knock on the door and Ruben showed his face throw a crack in the door.
"Got a minute kid?" He asked as he walked in the room.
"Do now apparently." Debbie replied with snark.
"Look, I know you're upset with Tammy but she's a good girl. She didn't know who you were and I didn't tell her who the Oceans were. Sure she knew some of the guys I worked with but I made point to not introduce her to your family. I wanted her to know the part of you that you only show your personal friends before adding in the whole con family part of you. She deserved a bit of normalicy with how her family is and who her uncle is."Pulling Debbie to his side he held her hand continuing. "Tammy has never had any good friends, not only that but she also isn't exactly the best when it comes to those her own age. For her, having friends wasn't anything she wanted but it was what was expected of her. She took a chance on you, on all of you. She hasn't smiled like she did in there in a long time. She wanted you to know her first before she brought in her other life so that you may take into account if losing her over how she gets money is worth losing her friendship or relationship or whatever you girls have with her. She loves you both dearly even if she hasn't said it."
Frowning Debbie stared at Ruben's hands. "What your saying is that she lied about who she was to protect herself and that she would've told us sooner or later. She wanted us to get to know her first before we learned about that side of her?" Feeling like an idiot Debbie stood up. "But why did she make it out to be a big deal when she found out about my family? When she found out that my family does the same as her?" Frustrated Debbie growled out.
"Because Deb, she didn't know who you were and didn't know how she should behave around your family. You know there are people out there that would love nothing more than to hurt me and by extension, her. She didn't know if you were one of those families or not. She was scared and she had a right to be. I never mentioned your family to her and normally it is something I would do if I knew someone was going to be in contact with her but I didn't this time. I wanted to see how this would pan out." Nodding along Debbie understood where he was coming from but she was still upset. Not at Tammy anymore but at herself for letting her run away and treating her like shit.
"How do I fix this Ruben?" Her voice broken with tears in her eyes. " I can't lose her, I just met her."
"Show her you care kid, go after her and apologize and show her you love her." He said wrapping his arms around her.
Nodding into his chest she pulled away and wiped her tears, "I better go after my girls then huh?" She chuckled as she walked out the room and eventually the house.
Thankfully she had Lou's location and saw she hasn't moved for a few minutes. 'Guess I don't have roam around the town for very long' she thought as she headed to the woods.
