A/N:
I'm literally writing at 1:00 am but my creativity is at it's peak so it's now or I'm not going to be able to find the motivation until somewhere next week. None the less, I hope you enjoy chapter twenty-five of Unlikely Savior!

*Dan's POV*
By the end of the day I had already come up with everything that I was supposed to say. And, even though I rehearsed the same lines and actions over and over inside my head, I knew it wouldn’t come out looking like a play. Because, everything that was coming to my head, was coming from my heart, and it was all one hundred percent genuine.
But, Phil wasn’t the only thing on my mind that day. I was also slightly thrown off by Chris’s sudden act of kindness. He wasn’t supposed to talk to me, wasn’t supposed to be kind to me, he wasn’t even supposed to breathe next to me. He was put on a leash by Emma and he was supposed to remain on that leash. But, coming up to me, even when the two of us weren’t really in sight of anyone, was really throwing caution to the wind.
I did appreciate it, I really did, but I couldn’t help but feel the three were up to some sort of plan. Knowing Chris for so long, it didn’t feel like he was playing at something. But, he seemed to play off faking our friendship quite well, so who knew. For all I knew, the three of them put Phil up to making me fall in love with him. They could’ve been playing the whole “John Tucker Must Die” trick on me. But, that was way out of line, even for someone like Emma.
I was overthinking everything quite a bit. Chris was most likely really being sincere and trying his best to help me out. I always liked Chris the most out of the three. Even though I didn’t spend as much time with him as I did with Emma, he still never hesitated to be there for me.
He was always the sidekick in all of our situations, always being thrown to the side like a piece of trash. And, I always wanted to help and pick him up, but I was under Emma’s leash as well. Emma had all of us under her leash, and I was just lucky enough to break free.
But, maybe breaking free from her grip wasn’t what I wanted after all. I still wasn’t entirely sure if this was all that I desired. Of course, I loved Phil to the bottom of my heart, but all of this was so out of my comfort zone. I was completely vulnerable, hanging by a thread, ready to get cut down.

Right when the last bell rang, I jumped out of my seat and dashed towards the exit. But, just as I was about to step foot into the halls, I heard Mr. Jones call me from behind. I didn’t hesitate to let out an aggravated groan as I stood in place, letting the other students push passed me.
I contemplated whether or not to turn or continue walking but Mr. Jones’ voice echoing once again convinced me to listen what he had to say. I turned on my heel, a flat line across my lips, and stared at him as I waited for him to speak.
“How are you, Dan?” he smiled, taking off his glasses and placing them in front of him. Great. Out of all days. When I’m actually in a hurry to get somewhere for once, you have to stop me to ask how my day is going, I shouted at him in my head. “Not too good,” I pushed out, knowing Mr. Jones would be able to read straight through my lies if I’d told him I was fine.
“What’s wrong?” he crossed his arms and leaned over onto his desk in my direction. I shrugged and slightly rolled my eyes, “Trouble in paradise, I guess.” Mr. Jones’ smile immediately dissipated as the words slid out from under my lips.
“And, you’re doing nothing to work it out?” he frowned. “I would be doing something right now, but someone’s holding me up,” I muttered, knowing what I was saying was risky. Mr. Jones widened his eyes before nodding and waving me off. “Well, run along,” he dismissed, “The faster you get out of this miserable state of yours, the better.
