A/N:

Hola! So, I thought I was going to have like a really great, productive summer but in reality I've been spending it all in my bed on my laptop. I'm very disappointed in myself to be honest. Anyways, here's chapter twenty of Unlikely Savior!

*Phil's POV*

The next morning I woke up with Dan's head rested on my shoulder as his arm laced around my chest. I sucked in a breath as I tried my hardest not to move. I glanced down at Dan, him lightly smiling in his sleep, the little dimple on his cheek appearing. I grinned before looking over at the time to realize we'd already missed a lesson.

Dan began to stir in his sleep as I struggled to pry myself from his grip. “W-what is it?” he murmured sleepily as I pushed myself off the couch and tried to wake him. “Dan, we've already missed a lesson,” I said frantically.

Within seconds, Dan was up off the couch with his eyes shot wide open. “How did we not think of setting an alarm?” he panicked. I shrugged before rushing to the bathroom, him following me quickly behind.

I grabbed an extra toothbrush from under the sink and handed it to him before plugging in my straightener. As I waited for the straightener to heat up, I brushed my teeth, Dan doing the same. The two of us simultaneously spit and Dan looked at me expectantly.

Can I do your hair again?” he smiled and I shook my head jokingly at him before Dan grabbed the straightener and began to rush it through my hair. Every time Dan's fingers grazed against my skull, shivers ran through my body.

After about ten minutes, Dan put the straightener to the side, turned me around, messed with my hair, and gave me a quick peck. He then grabbed the straightener and began to repeat the routine he did to my hair on his own. I stared at him for a minute, not wanting to look away before running off to my room and changing into a new outfit.

I dashed downstairs and began to pour some cereal for the two of us when Dan came rushing down as well and sitting at the counter. “Is cereal good?” I chimed as I poured myself a bowl and turned to him. He grinned and nodded before I handed him a bowl of his own.

Eventually, we'd finished the bowls and I tossed the two of them into the sink. Quickly, both of us slipped on our shoes and grabbed our bags before exiting the house. “You turned off the straightener, right?” I glanced over at Dan, him giving me a slight glare before nodding. “Well, we're already into the second lesson,” I talked as we headed down the street, “So, by the time you change and we actually get there, it'll probably be a few minutes before the third lesson.”

As we arrived at Dan's house, he quickly unlocked the door before shouting for his parents then letting me in. “They've already gone,” Dan sighed, slight disappointment in his voice but it was overpowered by relief. “I'll wait down here, go change,” I sat on his couch as he ran upstairs.

After a few minutes, Dan came dashing back downstairs, slipping his shoes back on and flinging his bag over his shoulder. “Ready?” he opened the door as I followed him out of the house. This time, we almost ran to the school, not wanting to face an embarrassing confrontation with Mr. Jones about being late to his class.

The two of us got to the school just as everyone was exiting their classrooms. Since we both had the same class, we didn’t split for one another. But, as more and more students left their rooms, I began to notice quite a lot of them were giving the two of us stares.

Some of them were smiling and others were frowning with disapproving looks on their faces. It could’ve been just my imagination, but I’ve been an outsider for too long to know whether I was just hallucinating or not.

I looked over at Dan and could see he was rather uncomfortable as well, only confirming that this wasn’t just in my head. I ignored everyone as best as I could but every group of people the two of us passed, I heard whispers and felt eyes on my back.

I could tell that Dan felt the same way as I did because he wasn’t walking with the same posture as he usually did. This time, he hunched his shoulders slightly and kept his head down, clawing at his palm. He seemed to be more nervous than me, and I could only guess what he was thinking.

We soon got to the classroom and slipped in, hoping to get away from all the stares. But, as we entered the class, more than half of it was filled. The chatter amongst the kids soon silenced and all of their heads turned towards us. Dan and I looked at one another for a second before shuffling over to our seats awkwardly.

Mr. Jones soon entered the room, glancing at both of us before getting to his lesson. Through the entire period, I tuned out Mr. Jones’ voice, too anxious to pay attention. I tapped my pen lightly against my desk as I stared out the window. I only had to get through this lesson before lunch came around and I could get out of here.

I looked across the room for a second to see Dan was in the same state of panic as me. We were probably thinking the same thing as well. What the hell was going on? Normally, everyone kept their eyes off of Dan, but not today. What made today so different from all other days?

The bell soon rang and the two of us waited for everyone to leave before exiting ourselves, like usual. But, instead of finding the obvious people waiting for us outside the room, only Sarah was there. Dan looked around, but Chris, PJ, and Emma were nowhere in sight.

Sarah gave a sympathetic look before grabbing Dan and I by our wrists and dragging us outside. The two of us stared at her, bewildered, but she just sighed. “You don’t know do you?” she asked, aiming it more at Dan than me. “Are we supposed to know something?” I questioned, answering for both of us.

Sarah stayed silent and looked down before shaking her head and looking back up at us. “Sarah, what is it?” I pressured her, a more strict tone to my voice. Sarah shut her eyes and exhaled sharply, playing with her hands. “Okay, but you guys can’t freak out on me,” she whispered, “Especially you, Dan.”

We waited in silence for a few moments before she spit out an explanation for everything. My heart sank right when the first few words flew out of her mouth. I looked to my side at Dan, but he was gone. I turned around to find him busting through the doors of the school entrance. I looked frantically at Sarah and she simply nodded before I sprinted after Dan, chasing him down the halls.
