Monday afternoon rolls around too quickly and I'm thankful that my morning class is just a lecture that doesn't require any participation. I don't think I even took notes, but I messaged one of the girls in my class, Claire, who is always happy to share her notes with me as long as I reciprocate when she's hungover. She doesn't believe me when I insist that I'm not strung out on something, just sends a whole bunch of winky faces and a notification that her email has sent. I thank her as I'm walking into my dorm, only to be hit in the face with a pillow.
"KARA" I squeal, batting it away and launching myself onto her bed in one go "I'm so glad you're back!" I exclaim, quickly pressing send and then giving her my full attention. She laughs and pushes me off her so that she can get back to unpacking. "I'm SO glad to be back". She's laughing but I can sense that something is a little off. I sit up and grab her pillow, holding it in my lap as I lean against the wall "Is everything ok?"
She shrugs and sighs, before abandoning the clothes that she's hanging and sitting down with me on her bed. "It's just so annoying! I go home to spend time with my parents and they're too busy for me!" I sigh in sympathy as she continues "BUT they still had time to make sure that I'm single, focused, and keeping up with my studies". I knowingly hand her her other pillow and she squeals into it with frustration.
"Thats shitty, I'm sorry" she waves me off and sighs again. "It's fine. I just wish they'd get off my back a little". I nodded in understanding. It's not like Kara doesn't work her ass off every hour of everyday. She is the hardest worker I know, studying law and business so that she can eventually join her parents firm and keep the "Garrison & Garrison" company in the family.
Her parents were so strict because her older sister had gotten pregnant the first year of uni and dropped out slash dropped off the face of the earth. I know that Kara hasn't seen Jenna for at least 2 years. Kara gets up and continues unpacking "Is it crazy to want to go out on a Monday night?" she asks me jokingly. I jump off her bed and grab my phone, typing in the number to the closest off campus pizza place
"No, but since there's nothing around Netflix and pizza is the next best thing". I order our favourite, pepperoni, and load up Riverdale to where we're both up to.
Once the pizza arrives we sit on my bed and watch Kara's computer screen. She keeps getting and responding to texts, but I'm dragged into the storyline and the terrible acting. "OH MY GAWD" Kara exclaims, making me drop my pizza in surprise "What?!" I ask, resuming eating my slice of pizza. It's freaking delicious by the way. "I forgot to tell you what I heard!".
Now, I've never been one to cultivate gossip, or spread it round, but because of a childhood of constantly being out of the loop, I appreciate Kara taking time to keep me updated. "Well spill then, obviously" I click to pause Netflix and turn my attention to her.
"So I was asking my parents about the Callaghans, you know, since you want to bang the son" I close my eyes in exasperation and slap her on her arm "ANYWAY," she continues "Turns out that my dad actually knows Mr Callaghan, and knows a lot about Jesse and what a player he is" she looks at me meaningfully, and I decide to flip the conversation on her. "Bet your dad didn't like you asking for information about boys" her nod is followed by a giggle and she agrees "He pretty much had an aneurysm trying to force me to promise that I would never date that 'Walking money drain STD clad boy'. I think my mum almost started crying"
She picks up her pizza and looks at me expectantly. "Look, even if I did want to date the guy" - her eyes go wide and she looks all excited - "It's against company policy". She deflates and this time hits me. "We'll see", she states turning back to Netflix "Like you said, technically, he's not an employee". I sigh and shake my head.
Although, it's true. He's not. I shake my head and don't let my mind wander down that dangerous road. Instead, I sit back and enjoy Cole Sprouse and the way that he's bulked up a bit for season 3.
